أخذ الكاتب السوري زياد عبد الله على عاتقه أن يحمل عبء رواية تجري أحداثها في مدينة دبي الحديثة، حيث التجارة والمال والأعمال والأبراج الشاهقة، وسوق المال والبورصة وكل ما يتعلق بالحياة في تلك المدينة الشديدة الحداثة والسريعة التطور، وعن شخصيات تعيش وتسرد الأحداث في تلك المدينة الغنية بعدد كبير من الناس والجنسيات المتعددة التي تضم أفراداً من مختلف أنحاء العالم بكل ثقافاتهم وأهوائهم وأعمالهم في تلك المدينة الهائلة.
تأتي الشخصيات متصلة لكن منعزلة في الوقت ذاته، فهي تعيش في المدينة نفسها لكن الشوارع والمكيفات والبنايات الهائلة تفصلها عن بعضها في ذات الوقت، يوسف الرشيد يبدأ من أزمته مع نورا وهاتفها الموصد في وجهه، هدى مرتضى تضيء كل وساوسها من البداية، حسن مطوي يغرق في الحال في نزيف زوجته، يوسف المشهداني يقرر العزلة، ومن ثم تكون استعادة حياة كل شخصية ودوافعها بموازاة تواتر الأحداث التي تمضي إلى نهايتها.
تأتي القصة بسرد واقع وسرد في أزمنة أخرى تتقاطع وتتداخل بينها، لتسرد حياة تلك الشخصيات وتداخلها مع بعضها البعض، فمنها ما يحدث ومنها ما قد حدث وانتهي وبقيت تأثيراته على الشخصيات، فتظهر الشخصيات وتندمج وتتشظى في عالم غريب حداثي، شخصيات مثقلة بالأحلام وغارقة في الأوهام، في مدينة يحكمها المال والعمل الدائم والوظائف، حيث تظهر تلك المخاوف القديمة والحديثة للشخصيات وأفكارها ومشاعرها الخاصة وآلامها وأوجاعها في الحياة لتشكل لوحة من الواقع تجري أحداثها في خلفية المدينة التي يقطنها هؤلاء وهي مدينة دبي.
