Disorganized

I think the book had a really cool idea but lacked the proper execution. The jump between characters was often confusing. Flashbacks seemed to be random. I can appreciate wanting to build a mystery, but I was confused about timelines and history to the point that it was distracting. A little bit of world building up front would have been helpful. Characters were fairly unlikable. The amount of cursing was excessive for me and seems to be in there for the sake of cursing. The narrator did a decent job but there was a bit of an echo. Overall, the book had an interesting idea, but the execution was confusing. I will not be continuing the series.

good world building but poor story telling

I really loved the world building. Unfortunately the book was very hard to follow. it has weird flashbacks, poor character development, poor character discriptions , and is written in an illogical order. The plot also left a lot to be desired. it was hard to understand what was even happening. I wanted to like it based ontorly on the world building but it was not for me

Good performance

This first volume has an interesting plot. I did get lost as it jumped from character story to character story. This probably would be better captured in the written version. The performance was good and enhanced the story.

Potential for the author.

This was an interesting read.

Multiple points of view following 2 groups of people. 1 group is fighting to survive a world where the power has gone out, and a permanent winter has settled in over North America.

The second group seems to be living in secret, in a high-tech, secret, underground city thats been separated from those on the surface for decades.

The plot is engaging and relatively quick moving. Most of the characters were likable enough, others were kind of tedious. One of the characters actually calls out the behavior saying "this is how adolescents behave," and it's so spot on.

There was one major plot hole that really left me kind of confused.

When 1 of the characters was on the run, he decided to steal from some random person who just so happened to be someone who was involved in some kind of spying. It was oddly convenient.

All in all, it was a fun little read. I'll be looking for book 2 soon.

Cantabury tales in Blade Runner universe.

Don’t believe the summary. I listened to the whole book and have no idea what happened. A group of people introduced themselves in the apocalypse and then there’s people underground. The narrorator was good, but some recordings had an echo like he was in a bathroom. Would hear more from him, but not this series.

Has too many flaws... But it was okay I guess.

From beginning to the end it keeps jumping between multiple people or groups of people, which pretty much kills a book for me personally... Not just that, but from beginning to the end it seems to kind of randomly sprinkle in their back stories right until the very end, which I thought was weird and too little too late.... Like the book was getting ready to wrap it up or at least it was starting to come together and perhaps we were about to get some answer and it suddenly jumps into a back story. Barely anything connected and we learned next to nothing. I feel like hearing each of their back stories way earlier or even in chronological order, I would've been way happier with the book. In fact if we had no idea about the underground city right up until the end and the book slammed us with it right at the very end it... That would've been something. Now nothing was resolved and the entire journey felt pointless.

The narrator was decent. Not Good, but okay... I'm pretty sure it was recorded inside a plastic barrel. Character voices were all over the place, but perhaps not to the point of being too distracting. I believe the first character the book starts with sounded so terrible that I was thinking about stopping, but then the voice mostly normalized for the rest of the book at some point.

A bit disjointed of a listen but overall good

Lots of good world-building and I’m eager to hear the next volume. Still, the audio was a bit tinny sounding and the story jumped around a lot.

Amazing writing style

One thing I really found fascinating was the way in which similes and métaphores were used throughout the story to depict scenery, emotions, etc. I sometimes found the timeline confusing as it didn’t occur in sequential order but very well written and excited to listen to the next in the series

intriguing

I found myself having to rewind and pay attention as I listened to this book. I haven't read anything quite like it and look forward to the next.
