About this listen

Sandi Patty, the most awarded female vocalist in contemporary Christian music, saw her stellar career go into a tailspin. Now she tells the story of her long road to restoration. From the agony of divorce nearly 10 years ago, Sandi has moved from center stage to the back row of the church balcony and back into the spotlight. This book is the heart-touching narrative of her years as an acclaimed recording artist balancing her role as adoring mother of four children, her fall from public acclaim, and the steps she worked through with her church and pastor to find forgiveness and peace...all under the harsh glare of national media attention.©2005 Sandi Patty (P)2005 Oasis Audio LLC Entertainment & Celebrities Music Religion & Spirituality Religious Celebrity Heartfelt

Touching

I'm not a fan of Sandy Patti, although I was familiar with her music in her heyday in the 80s, and her successes, along with her missteps. However, this book may leave a lasting impression on me, as it successfully humanizes the struggle that she went through, while not discounting the sin itself. She shows how, even in her mistake, that God was able to raise up fruit from the ashes. It's a perfect book for someone who is struggling because of divorce.

Wonderfully written

I can relate to lots of things in this book. It was great to hear Sandi’s voice as the narrator. It made it that much note real. It also made me cry. I have loved Sandi for so many years. Yes I was upset at first to learn what happened but I’m also glad that she has been healed and forgiven by God because that’s what’s most important.

Wow and Thank You!

I am grateful for this book. The heart wrenching story and amazing grace and redemption have been a blessing to me.
We are all in need of God’s grace and redemption.

The book is so well written and Sandi did such a wonderful job narrating. Of course...it is her story.

Thank you, Sandi.

Broken and Restored!

Sandi tells her story openly in hopes to let the reader know they are not alone and that God will meet them/us where we are and hold our hand each step of the way forward to restoration. She shares her journey and leads the way for others to follow. I recommend you check out other books that she has written also.

Felt Like I Had Seen a New Side to Sandi Patty

Sandi Patty wanted us to know her real story, and that was refreshing. The downside was that it sometimes seemed like she was doing too much rambling about herself. I had to keep in mind that this was her first book. Overall, I thought she did a good job. So glad to see the healing God has brought into all their lives!

Broken on the back row

I have never read a modern story that God has used so beautifully and effectively to demonstrate his redemptive love and power. I praise God for the Pastor who allowed himself to be used by God to draw in a broken soul and Ms. Patti who allowed her story to be publicized and bring a message of hope to those of us who need God's forgiveness in our lives.

Broken on the Back Row - Brady Bunch-style

Sandy starts the book with a caveat that if you're looking for juicy or salacious details, you won't find them in this book. She's right. What I did find was a woman who chased happiness until she found it - at the expense of her marriage and ministry.

While she was truly repentant and did go through the steps to restoration, I get the sense that she's still trying to chase after happiness. ("I finally get to make my own choices and feel free and am truly in love for the first time in my life!") The way this book is written, it sounds like the Christian version of the Brady Bunch. Two families melded together in perfect harmony with smiles and laughter...and more than one bathroom. It's very sugary and sweet. At times, it bordered on silliness.

Granted, this book is over 20 years old, but I think if she had given a bit more perspective as to why she was so unhappy in her life "before the fall" (without disparaging details, of course), the redemption story would have resonated more and been so much sweeter and much more poignant and impactful.
