About this listen
If you have suffered spiritual abuse from a toxic church, toxic organization, or toxic leader, your trust has been broken. You entrusted your life to someone you thought would care for you: someone who initially inspired you to know God, only to reject you in the end. Now you are left wounded and disillusioned, wondering if you can ever trust others, yourself, or possibly even God, again.
Have you been hurt by spiritual abuse?
Most people don't understand the devastating impact of spiritual abuse. Many suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) as a result of experiencing it. If you think your spiritual community might be abusive, or you have just left an abusive congregation, then this book could give you the direction you are looking for. In "Broken Trust," F. Remy Diederich relates his personal experiences of toxic faith and spiritual abuse along with the experiences of other survivors. But this isn't just another tell-all story of abuse; it's a guide that will help you to first identify spiritual abuse, and then offer you a practical plan for recovery. Diederich is convinced that God is the God of resurrection and restoration. He believes you can begin again.
One of the best books on spiritual abuse

Mullen reveals a pattern that accompanies many types of abuse, almost as if abusers are somehow reading from the same playbook. If we can learn to decode these evil methods - if we can learn the language of abuse - we can help stop the cycle and make abusers less effective at accomplishing destruction in our lives.

Story
In his debut book, researcher and advocate Wade Mullen introduces us to the groundbreaking world of impression management - the strategies that individuals and organizations utilize to gain power and cover up their wrongdoings.

Sexual abuse, sex addiction, gender confusion, brokenness, and shame plague today's world, and people are seeking clarity and hope. By contesting long-held cultural paradigms, this book equips you to see how sexuality is rooted in the broader context of God's heart and his work for us on earth. Instead of arguing with the world about what's right and wrong about sexual choices, this practical resource equips you to share the love and grace of Jesus as you encounter the pain of sexual brokenness - your own or someone else's.

"What must I do to gain eternal life?” The rich man who asked this of Jesus was told to sell all he had and give to the poor. But, more importantly, he was told, “Come, follow me!” Franciscan Casey Cole challenges us to let go of something more difficult than material wealth: expectations, anxiety, comfort, wounds, enemies, power - and our very selves. Speaking from both personal and pastoral experience, he outlines the stumbling blocks that turn us away from following Jesus as true disciples. The response to “What must I do?” is simple but not easy: Let go. Now.

Very good book
This book has been truly a blessing to me. It helped me to understand and how to cope with the emotions I was feeling after leaving such a church. It was freeing and really practical. It address every question and concern I had. Remy did a great job! I would 100% recommend this book to anyone who has experienced being in a toxic church.

If You've Been Spiritually Abused READ THIS BOOK
Wanting to get clarity on a negative church experience from a few years ago, I've read/listened to several books dealing with spiritual abuse. This book is well-written, concise, and very practical. I like that it comes from a slightly different point of view (in a good way) from other books I've read/listened to. The writer, Remy Diederich, gets into some of the cultic and legalistic practices in toxic churches as well as describing toxic leadership styles and behaviors. He covers how abusers gaslight and build a wall of sycophants around themselves. I appreciated hearing the writer's and several others' stories of spiritual abuse. I could so relate to what they experienced and, at times, felt like they were talking about my own experience. It was refreshing to have someone say that you don't need to rush into your next step ... but give yourself time to heal. The writer seems to understand (probably because he's gone through spiritual abuse himself) the need to voice the hurt, refocus the anger and emotions, and the desire to be understood. At the end of the book, he gives some straightforward and common-sense advice on dealing with the aftermath of trauma. If you have experienced... or think you may be experiencing ... spiritual abuse, please read this book.

HELPED ME RECOVER FROM LEGALISM!
This book is literally the best book I have ever read so far that helped me understand what I was going through when I thought I was crazy. I found out the root of my spiritual depression. my Pastor is a narcissistic man that pushed unbiblical methods upon us and left us feeling completely defeated and not knowing who christ was anymore. stopped praying, stopped reading the bible...everything was routine...but this book helped bring insight to CHANGE MY LIFE
100/100...I WISH THERE WERE MORE PAGES

Identify toxic culture & how to begin healing
I own all three versions of this book: Kindle, Paper and was elated when the audio version was released. I also own all of Remy's other books. They are a great series for healing from a toxic environment. This is a book you will want to purchase for friends once you understand the damage of a toxic culture. READ THIS BOOK! READ ANYTHING that F.REMY DIEDERICH writes.

Thank you!
I have read several books on this topic, so desperate to heal. I went two years unable to enter a church, unable to listen to worship songs that once brought tears of joy, yet now ignite tears of grief.
Concise. This book touches the heart and inspires hope beyond the pain. It’s helping me risk trusting again.
God - my relationship is stronger than ever. Never wavered there. But people.
I’ve walked this journey with over a hundred experiencing the same abuse from the same organization.
Will share this with my new pastors and with others who continue to wrestle with guilt over their grief.
Thank you for reminding us that it’s okay to grieve. Okay to be angry….
That we ourselves can find healing.

Choppy narration
Content was good but it was hard to listen to. I also didn’t like positive references to guys like Richard Rohr and Henri Nouwen.
