Publisher's summary

She didn’t know he was watching. Until it was too late. She’d walked this path hundreds of times before; she knew every twist and turn. But today was different. She didn’t know someone was waiting for her, hidden away from view. She didn’t know this was the last time she’d walk this path.

Hidden deep in the forest, schoolgirl Felicity Parker is found carefully laid out on a rock with nothing but a freshly picked bunch of flowers next to her lifeless form. Detective Jenna Alton is called in to investigate the gruesome discovery.

With the body found just off a popular hiking route, Jenna believes the killer is a visitor to the town...until a second local girl is discovered.

Within days, Kate Bright, a school friend of Felicity’s, is found brutally murdered at the local swimming pool, and once again the killer has displayed his victim in a terrifying manner and left flowers at the scene. The town is gripped with fear, and Jenna and her deputy, David Kane, now know that the killer is living among them and that he’s picking off school girls one by one. But they don’t know who is next on the list.

As the trail goes cold, Kane and Alton are forced to sit and wait for the killer to make his next move. But now he has a new victim in his sights, and he’s looking much closer to home....

If you love Robert Dugoni, Karin Slaughter, and Rachel Abbott, you’ll love this nail-biting thriller from D.K. Hood.

Beware the Narrator and “Meh” Storyline

For the love of all that is good don’t do it. This story isn’t tragic, the reading is - and then the story isn’t good. If I didn’t have to give a star for the performance, I wouldn’t. The plot is disappointing and is only made worse by the narrator. I don’t think I can keep going with the series because of it all. The details really leave something to be desired. Ms. Hood is constantly rushing the ~bad guy’s~ part and she glosses over what sinister event is happening.

Excellent book

What a great book. Has very twisted ending. I hope there will be a book #3.

The story is great....

I loved the story. It moves fast, and is interesting all the way through. I wish that I liked the narrator, but her voice through the middle of the book was pretty depressing. It got better more toward the end,But the way she depicted men, grated on me each time She spoke for men

struggling

I really really struggled getting through this book. I enjoyed the first book and looked forward to the second but unfortunately the narrator made it difficult to enjoy. It was a raspy monotone voice with n accent that made it hard to grasp the character. Im conflicted if I should move knto the third in the series as the story seems to center around another serial killer in a remakably small town. a little hard to believe in. ( even though I fully understand its a fictional story).

Change Narrator!!!

Great story...but but the books until they get a new narrator. Not worth your audible credit.

Decent Story....Horrible Narration

I struggled with this book. The narration was absolutely horrible. The voices for the characters as well as the attempt to cover up her non-American accent were very distracting. As for the story, I love a good strong female character. Hood has made Alton seem like a damsel in distress at times in this book and then turns it right around to her being an authoritative and bossy woman. Neither of these is an appealing character trait for me.

The plot was an interesting one though and a great warning of the capabilities of dangerous people with technology.

I might try one more of these books before giving up on what could have been a great series.

ugh why do they have to

why does the narrator have to come up with God awful accents for the characters??? the story was great. I put the speed up a bit on the narration to help with the narration of the story. narrators should do their research on each character and also see if another narrator has established a character before reading a book for the first time. have no clue what type of accent she was trying to give Wolf but it didn't work. He sounded like a moron and dude is smarter than the average bear. same with Kane.

Good Mystery

Any mystery where I miss figuring out who is the murderer, is a good read. I didn't love the narrator but didn't hate her either. I think it's a personal preference on narration.

Terrible Narration

The story was somewhat ok. But the narration totally ruined the whole thing! You can barely tell the difference between the female and male characters. And, if you are going to narrate a book, please learn how to pronounce the words in the book. So sad I wasted my money on this book!

Worst Narrator ever

I struggled to finish this book. The narrator was robotic and annoying. The character voices were unrealistic and distracting. Will never by a book with this narrator in the future.
