Acerca de esta escucha

Art critic Jeremy Grove is found dead, his face frozen in a mask of terror. His body temperature is grotesquely high; he is discovered in a room barricaded from the inside; the smell of brimstone is everywhere... and the unmistakable imprint of a claw is burned into the wall. As more bodies are discovered - their only connection the bizarre but identical manner of death - the world begins to wonder if the Devil has, in fact, come to collect his due.

Teaming with Police Officer Vincent D'Agosta (The Relic), Agent Pendergast is determined to solve this case that appears to defy everything except supernatural logic.

Another great read. Not the best one I've read of the series, but definitely worth the purchase. The latter books are better than the first ones I think. I had a hard time getting through Relic and don't think I even finished it, but I went ahead and bought the rest of the series and they got better and better. I listened to them out of order so I think I'll let some time pass and go back and listen to them in the proper order. If you liked the other ones, you'll like this one. And even if this isn't your genre - it is still a very interesting story and good read.

Simply another great Pendergast novel.

Listened to Fever Dream first, and this one next. Maybe my expectations were too high, but did not enjoy Brimstone nearly as much. The plot was interesting, but not compelling and I did not like the ending.

A little disappointing

What was one of the most memorable moments of Brimstone?

Brimstone was just great from beginning to end. The clues found at crime scenes were just mind boggling. I don't like the Pendergast novels that stray too far from reality, so I was hesitant for a while about the clues that were found. However, I stuck with it and it got so much better. Definitely a lot of twists and turns I never would have suspected.

Have you listened to any of Scott Brick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Scott Brick has narrated a few of the Pendergast novels, and Rene Auberjonois does the others. I can't stand Rene Auberjonois as a narrator. Scott Brick makes you forget he's one guy reading an audiobook. He performs, as opposed to Auberjonois, who just recites.

Had me guessing for a while!

This book was amazing one of the best Pendergast ever! It has a much different tone to the book, a very great action story!
Spoiler: this book has one very intense sex part

If you could sum up Brimstone in three words, what would they be?

Brilliant, thrilling storytelling

What other book might you compare Brimstone to and why?

Angels and Demons? Da Vinci code? One of those two. Both share the murder mystery thriller with heavy Italian influence. Plenty of clever symbolism, exciting chases, and unexpected twists and turns.

Which scene was your favorite?

I like scary stuff so I loved the way the haunting, diabolical killings were described.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

A fiery death awaits us all

Wow! A gripping, action-packed mystery!

This was a great story...very unique! The only thing that would’ve been helpful in understanding what was happening at times would’ve been an inclusion of the translation of the Italian-speak for listeners! I hope further books with any foreign language provide appropriate translations!!! Can’t wait to read book 6.

Another GREAT Pendergast story

Narrorator was really good. Liked the book a lot; it just got wordy a bit in the middle with describing everything. I still love the Pendergast series.

Not my favorite in the series but still Great

As a newcomer to the Pendergast series, I'm reading the books in order and trying very hard not to look ahead, following the development of the characters from book to book. Much more backstory for D'Agosta. I've loved him since Book 1, and it was good seeing the normally aloof Pendergast show such faith in him.

Despite my occasional impatience with the Buck storyline (kinda wish the authors had explored his psychology a bit more), They managed to keep both main story lines moving albeit at different paces.

I've never been to Italy so found the descriptions of Florence and especially the area around it, interesting. D'Agosta's confusion about his "first language" was great! And I've loved Wilkie Collins ever since I read The Moonstone as a teen; using Count Fasco from Woman In White was unexpected, but so totally wonderful! And the discussion of the violins made me want to read more about their history myself!

Scott Brick did a great job as narrator. His delivery of character voices was not over-the-top, and his voice kept the listener engaged. He handled the Italian smoothly.

Another winner!

The book kept me captivated. I love the Pendergast series and this was one of the best. Very surprised at the ending.
