"True" stories

these aren't good fictional ghost stories. they are a rehash of urban legends, read robotically by the narrator. Don't waste your time.

Interesting Stories

This short collection of stories is interesting, but nothing super earth shattering. I enjoyed them, but didn't find that these were super scary. My son, who also listened to them said the same thing - fun but not super scary.
Good collection of stories.

Slightly awkward writing

In each story, there seems to be a sentence which is a little bit out of place. The example that I will give is the sea captain story in chapter 2, the first story in that chapter. The last sentence in the story tells you the year in which the lighthouse was built, but it doesn’t make sense for that sentence to be in the place where it is. I feel like decent editing could have fixed this issue.

One of my top 3 Scary Story anthologies on audio, and the best Ghost Stories!

I very rarely give five star reviews. These timeless true ghost stories are my favorite audio anthology, yet! They are suitable for children and adults. As a lifelong folklore and ghost lore collector, I have heard most of the stories before. The lively narration is engaging, and not at all cheesy for teens and adults. I hadn’t heard most in years, and was enthralled all over again. It doesn’t have the dry “report” tone that most historical true stories (or legends) do. There were new details I haven’t heard. My only criticism is that more of a pause between stories, and chapters, would make for easier listening. I ended up listening to quite a few over again, when I lost my place. The stories are quite short but that is nice, sometimes. These would make for a fun “free listening” time in school media classes, where kids usually don’t have time to finish longer stories. It’s also fun for a short commute, and bedtime listening. Ideal for lighting a candle and spooky, lights-out fun!

Racist Remarks

Had a lot of racist comments in the story. The stories the authors chose were decent but not descriptive enough. Some sound effects would have been a nice touch.

Snore

If I'm being really honest, I only listened to this one because I wanted something quick to get the badge for finishing a book in one session. Having said that, it is something that piqued my interest and I was looking forward to listening. But I found it very lackluster. The stories were like listening to the sparknotes version of the actual story. The narrator was overly dramatic and a bit monotone. And I didn't even get the badge. 🤷🏻‍♀️
