About this listen

Blood & Soil is the second book in The Protocols series, a series chronicling the rise of authoritarianism from the Industrial Revolution to the end of the Second World War. The focus of the second book is the Nazi invasion of Poland in September 1939 and the Battle of France in the spring of the following year. The title second book is a reference to one of the pillars of Nazi ideology, the concept of Blut und Boden, or "blood and soil." It champions the values of country and small town living over the corrupting, foreign values of cities and large towns. It also asserts the superiority of the German people as descendants of an ancient Master Race, the Aryans and is fundamental to the concept lebensraum, or "living space," the belief that the German people, the Master Race, needed to acquire additional land and resources in order to be fruitful and competitive in the world. It was also the rationalization of Germanization, the replacement of inferior or toxic populations of acquired lands with Aryan folk. Like all the books in The Protocols series, Blood & Soil is composed of carefully selected and curated excerpts from diaries, news articles, radio broadcasts, speeches, combat situation reports, and other historical documents chosen not only for their ability to illustrate the past, but for their relevance in terms of the times in which we live.
