About this listen

Unholy revival!

Josiah Craven had been all but forgotten for nearly a hundred years.

To his descendants, he was nothing more than an imposing image in an old tintype photograph and the subject of stories told in hushed tones before the fireplace at night. A traveling mountain preacher who had returned from his wanderings and died under mysterious circumstances - buried in an unmarked grave with a wooden stake through his heart. Dudley Craven had heard the tales, but never believed them...until his plow unearthed an ancient coffin in the center of a lonesome mountain pasture.

Now Josiah is back, and his true nature has been revealed. Hungering for the blood and obedience of his kin, he roams the Appalachian Mountains with only one purpose in mind...to initiate his family into a dark church of the damned.

Only a trio of unlikely foes summon the courage to bring Josiah’s ungodly mission to an end. An alcoholic carpenter who will do anything to save his wife and children, a timid preacher’s wife with a love of horror literature and film and the knowledge to defeat the undead, and a moonshine-making mountain man who once encountered a similar evil in the dark tunnels beneath the jungles of Vietnam.

Together, they will ascend the peak of Craven’s Mountain to do battle with Josiah Craven and his congregation of the living dead!

Effective Southern Gothic vampire story

I enjoyed this story. ‘Blood Kin’ is a well-written vampire story that fans of the genre will get a kick out of. Josiah Craven stands out as fun and sinister villain. Also included is a bonus story that serves as a prequel.

Gary Noon is a solid narrator with the right amount of twang the story requires.

I would also recommend ‘Fear’ by this author.

Classic Vampire Tale

BLOOD KIN by Ronald Kelly is a vampire story with a very classic feel to it. Ronald Kelly gives us some great well fleshed out characters who while had their flaws, I found myself cheering for them to survive. Warning not all characters live for the Hollywood happy ending in this bad boy!

A very listenable novel with a bonus novella

Firstly, the bonus novella at the end of the book was a surprise, and it is called “The Wanderer of Twilight Mountain" (it was NOT in the original Zebra Books paperback).

If you like King's 'SALEMS LOT and you're looking for a similar-themed story, look no further than BLOOD KIN by Ronald Kelly. It's about a small town that recently has a vampire problem. The title alludes to one of the main vampires mostly turning his kin folk into the undead. Of course, there are some town folks that don't like this idea, and they aim to stop this southern bloodsucker. Ronald Kelly pours on the southern charm and covers it with blood in this tale. I highly recommend it. Please note, I received this audiobook free of charge and I am giving it my own honest review.

Southern vampires got no chance with God fearing people!!!

A old southern preacher from the 1890s, got prideful and became a vampire. Then his grave was disturbed by a descendant farming the land. Now this evil creature is terrorizing his descendants and plans to take over the town! A drunk carpenter, a timid wife and a Vietnam vet are doing all that they can to stop him!!!

Blood Kin

This is the best vampire story I’ve read since Midnight Mass. I love to read and watch movies in the horror, supernatural and paranormal genre. I go through books pretty fast and always hate when I finish a great one such as Blood Kin. Definitely recommend!

Vampires abound

I really enjoyed learning about the Craven family of the undead. Really liked the added chapters at the end of the book. It definitely gave me an understanding of how it all started. Great read.

Pretty good story

I was given this book for free from audiobook boom and asked to leave an unbiased review for the author and narrator.

I thought this was a pretty good story, could have had more about the actual vampires, but it wasn't bad. The narrator did a pretty good job, but I would have liked more emotion and I like when the narrators "perform" the book to bring it to life. Do the various character voices rather than just read them or change your voice a little.

Blood Kin

Bloody good old fashioned horror novel. A ghoul from the past gets dug up and decimates a town. Gary Noon was a fine narrator.I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

High Noon reads about a small town afraid of night

If'n you like vampires this is your bag. Blood Kin does NOT pull any punches. Kelly creates likable characters, and then proceeds to put the in danger, and kill some off. Well, alot of them actually. Don't get too attached, Muhahaha!!!! The vamps are villainous and creepy and you will dig them like a gravedigger loves dirt.

The story is rock solid, like a gravestone, and flies by faster than you realize, kind of how night sneaks up on you and before you know it you're out in the woods alone. Or maybe not so alone as you wish. That's the vibe this book gives off. If you are into horror, vampires, and actual struggles of real people to make it to the next day you will loved this book.
