About this listen

Easy Rawlins, L.A.'s most reluctant detective, comes home one day to find Easter, the daughter of his friend, Christmas Black, left on his doorstep. Easy knows that this could only mean that ex-marine Black is probably dead, or will be soon.

But Easter's appearance is only the beginning, as Easy is immersed in a sea of problems. The love of his life is marrying another man, and his friend Mouse is wanted for the murder of a father of 12. As he's searching for a clue to Christmas Black's whereabouts, two suspicious MPs hire him to find his friend Black on behalf of the U.S. Army.

Easy's investigation brings him to a blonde woman, Faith Laneer, whose past is as dark as her beauty is bright. As Easy begins to put the pieces together, he realizes that Black's disappearance has its roots in Vietnam, and that Faith might be in a world of danger.

Critic reviews

"Mosley knows his territory as intimately as a lover knows his beloved, and Easy's tortuous progression from man-child to man may have reached its climax in this searing and moving novel." ( Publishers Weekly)

Best Easy Rawlins book I have read!

Loved it. Best moment was the incident which occurred at Jewell's vacant property. Must read.

A GREAT installment in a GREAT series

This chapter in the lives of Eazy Rawlins joins together all the disparate elenents of the last 5 installments and with a trusting knot.

Easy to love this epic historical fiction.

WM is an amazing and prolific author. I’ve enjoyed the short Fearless Jones series and about half of Easy Rawlins. I’ve read to every one at least twice. As a white man who’s never liver lived in southern Cal, the education is priceless. While the explicit scenes are baggage in my opinion, the yarns and interconnectedness of the characters’ lives, and even both series mentioned, makes for reading that one can immerse themself in. The experiences that Easy, Mouse, Fearless, and Paris Minton live through are rarely exaggerated or over-the-top. Anyone who’s paid the slightest attention to race and culture over the past few years, even when it’s dumbfounding, can get an inkling into how society compounded some issues of trust that remain stuck in our country’s craw. Politics aside though, there are good people on both sides of the divide both in WM’s prose and real life. I love that “politics” rarely are examined by the protagonists. They take every event in situ rarely making broad sweeps outside of the actual cultural circumstances. That’s why these stories are so entertaining: they are believable and compelling. Highly recommend Walter Mosley’s mysteries.
