Dashiell Hammett and Raymond Chandler, Erle Stanley Gardner and John D. MacDonald got their start in Black Mask. The urban crime stories that appeared in Black Mask helped to shape American culture. Modern computer games, films, and television are rooted in the fiction popularized by "the seminal and venerated mystery pulp magazine" (Booklist). Never before in audio, these vintage stories are the darkest of the dark, and the best of the best.

Great short stories
I was just getting into the black mask books as these short stories from great masters, when they were unknowns, are a perfect listen when you are easily distracted. I am very disappointed that Audible decided to monetize them. They just are not the sort of thing I enjoy spending my credits on. I would rather spend them on the books of the actual characters, that have stood the test of time. Not the characters that led to those characters.
