Publisher's summary

A sweeping adventure of the Forgotten Realms to mark the 50th anniversary of Dungeons & Dragons, written by New York Times best-selling author R.A. Salvatore.

When Drizzt Do’Urden first entered Icewind Dale in 1347, he found a place quite unlike anywhere he had ever known, a land of freezing winds and ferocious monsters, of dramatic vistas and unrelenting challenges. Most of all, though, he found a land populated by folk who knew all too well the price of a misstep, whether walking into a yeti den or trusting a stranger.

Making his way in those early days was no easy task, but Drizzt would find focus and joy in watching the antics of a girl and a bunch of dwarfs trying to keep her from getting herself killed. A girl who would become his friend, who would become a woman, who would become his wife.

When Breezy Do’Urden, the daughter of that marriage, enters Icewind Dale more than 150 years later, she finds a land no more tamed. And while her father’s reputation has mostly smoothed the way for her among the ever-suspicious people, she carries her own concerns, confusion, and a trauma realized in the difficult journey through the Spine of the Word Mountain.

She also carries the blood on her hands.

The past and future

The author takes us to the past where it all began and when Drizzt first began to learn to hunt the creatures there. Then we are taken to the future where we meet Breezy who thinks she’s ready and like her father has a lot to learn. This was a good tale and I hope to see more from the author in future books.

The next generation

Bob continues to write fantastic stories. After decades of Drizzt stories he finds a way to continue to write fresh flowing action sequences and touch the emotion of the reader with the interaction and friendships of the wonderful characters I have loved since Bob’s first Forgotten Realms book. Now he writes of the next generation with Breezy. As a father of daughters parts rang so true for myself. This is Bob’s true talent: making a connection with the reader. So listen to Uncle Jax kids and read this new book from one of the greatest of fantasy writers of all time.

A short but great look at the life of Drizzt’s daughter

I love all the stories that Salvatore writes about Drizzt and his friends and family! This one does not disappoint. It’s nice to see how Bree is coming into her own. Too bad it’s not a longer story, but maybe it’s enough to hold me over for now.

Breezy

I have been reading Mr Salvatore more years than i can fathom. From his first book of Icewind dale and all that followed, this in my opinion is one of the best I have had the pleasure of reading / listening to, and eagerly wait for more on her journeys. You are a master story teller and very few will surpass your gift. Thank you

Coming of age

In most eras there is a end to a beginning. This I most certainly understand is of hope and freedom. How this may play out is up to the listener right.

Need more please, Mr. Salvatore! Pretty please 🙏

It was a great short story with flashbacks and the presents! I really wanted something longer or even a second part.
