Acerca de esta escucha

Dean Hudson didn't look evil...so what could drive an ordinary boy to kill?

When the teenage son of Holly Gold's school friend brutally murders his parents before killing himself, her sleepy home town is rocked by the sudden tragedy.

Appalled, Holly investigates. What could have caused the happy-go-lucky boy she remembers to commit such a heinous crime? When another teen commits suicide, she uncovers a horrifying link between the recent deaths and a dark conspiracy to hide the truth.

But someone doesn't want Holly asking questions and, as she hunts for evidence to prove her theory, she's dragged into a nightmare that threatens her life and her sanity. Then tragedy strikes again—and this time it's closer to home...

Beneath the Surface is a gripping psychological suspense-thriller from the bestselling author of Duplicity, Look Behind You and Where the Memories Lie.

Had me from start to finish. Loved the twists and turns! Bravo! I hope this is a beginning to a series!!

A wonderfully written Erin Brauchwhitz type story

very good and thought provocating book. Makes me wonder about the medication world that surrounds us

suspenseful

Sibel Hodge became one of my favorite authors since I read Duplicity. I love the way she reveals the mystery slowly and with great imagination. This was another one of her books that has the same elements. Loved this book.

Very good suspense

The first half is very good. Second half is all about big pharma, pills, depression. She does make some valid points. BUT the last paragraph is total BS. Vaccines do not cause autism!!!! Will never read another book by this author.

An agenda book

I feel the author showed her lack of knowledge on depression...well, depressing. She kept acting as though taking meds which by the way, have saved many lives is such a horrible thing. The main character makes a very naive statement something the effect of, i dont need "happy pills" i can just think ore positive..blah bah. First of all, you cannot THINK your way out of clinical depression. Anti-depressants are NOT 'happy pills". Thats a very ignorant way too see them. They dont make you "high" or "euphoric". Sigh....she is way way behind the times and sounds like one of those people who hate big pharma forgetting that their mom or dad is alive because they have insulin for their diabetes, or synthroid for thyroid disease, anti-biotics it save them fro infection.
This book is thinly veiled propaganda from someone with an anti- medication agenda. And for gods sake please stop calling weed, spliff or whatever drugs and acting like people who smoke are on a bad road. Wow was this author on a soapbox!
Also, the coincidences were absolutely silly. Way too unbelievable , even for fiction. If you're going to let your biases show, please at least be accurate with facts and do your homework .
Happy pills indeed. Pfft.

Not enough research on mental illness...

I enjoyed this book enough to listen all the way through. It kept my attention and really makes one think.

Not Bad

In my opinion it had too much going on. I could'nt keep track of the characters. It's basically pushing political agendas against big pharma and or vaccines. but it's just not enough to keep you interested in the plot.

Too much to track, a bit boring, political agenda

I made it through 3 hours of this before I gave up. Even on 1.2x speed, it just dragged on pointlessly. The plot itself had plenty of potential, but the first 9 chapters is just the protagonist talking to people, none of which say anything revealing or interesting. We really don't need to hear 5 different conversations of 5 different people explaining in detail how the kid seemed totally normal and was totally fine.

The narrator was adequate. Not amazing, but there wasn't anything wrong with her performance. It just wasn't much of a performance since the entire thing is just the protagonist talking... and talking... and talking. Honestly, this is a plot that could have been really compelling under a better author, but with Hodge's execution it was just really really boring.
