About this listen
You can listen to this science fiction story for free on your device with the Audible Stories Skill. Just say “Alexa, read me a sci-fi story,” or “Alexa, read me a story” to hear more free genres.
An old man wakes inside his comatose, completely nonresponsive body. According to his insurance company, in order to return to his life and family, he must pass a test. As if coming out of a coma weren’t enough of a challenge, our patient must also pass the Turing test, i.e., prove he’s human to an AI resuscitation machine. This satirical but heartfelt tale reminiscent of Kurt Vonnegut and Ted Chiang asks the question: Can a person articulate the deepest truths he knows to be real?
Travis Sentell is the author of two books (In the Shadow of Freedom and Fluid), and has worked as a ghostwriter for eight New York Times bestselling authors. He also writes for TV and film, most recently Amazon’s Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams and NBC’s The Thing About Pam.
