Wie wär’s mit einer perfekten Gesellschaft? Abseits gängiger Sci-Fi-Dystopien spielt die "Kultur"-Serie von Iain Banks mit künstlicher Intelligenz, die der Menschheit ausnahmsweise mal nichts Böses will. In ferner Zukunft feilen seine besserwisserischen "Minds" (sprich: Computer mit Namen, die an schlechte Gameshows erinnern) an einem befriedeten, aufgeklärten Konsens-Universum. Auf die insektenartigen Idiraner wirkt das vor allem: arrogant. Sie misstrauen der "aufgeklärten" Kultur und starten einen galaxisweiten Eroberungsfeldzug. Zwischen den Fronten: kratzbürstige Drohnen, ein persönlichkeitsgestörter Gestaltswandler, die Kultur-Agentin Perosteck Balveda - und ein gestrandetes Mind, das den gesamten Krieg entscheiden könnte. Am Ende? Ist alles doch nur ein Spiel. Und ein ultragefährliches dazu ... Wir meinen: Witzig, bissig, punktgenau, technisch versiert - genau so muss eine Space Opera sein!
