About this listen

Battle Earth is the first of an epic new science fiction trilogy that tells of humanity's desperate struggle to survive against an overwhelming alien invasion. A distress transmission from Mars research colony warns of an advanced and unknown enemy approaching the heavily populated lunar colony. An elite marine unit commanded by Major Mitch Taylor is dispatched to protect the beleaguered civilians. However, the attack is merely a prelude to a massive invasion of Earth. When the vast enemy mothership smashes through the Earth's atmosphere and deploys in the Atlantic, the armed forces of Earth soon realize they are fighting for the very survival of the human race. As cities fall throughout the world, American and European forces rally together to make a stand as they battle an enemy unlike any they've ever encountered. Battle Earth is a futuristic sci-fi action adventure that chronicles vast bloody battles following humanity's first reach into the stars.

Well...okay

The story here is pure brain candy...but that's alright. Brain candy is what I was looking for. Good action, evil aliens invading Earth, ground combat and so on. The book opened up pretty well and I got into the story/ As things went on I found myself feeling rather, blah about the book. I'm still not sure if the biggest problem was the writing (a little cliched, but maybe not too bad.) or the narration.

When the reader pronounced "bedraggled" as "bed-raggled" I knew I was in trouble.

Good start to the series...

Would you listen to Battle Earth again? Why?

Yes, especially after hearing future installments of this series.

What did you like best about this story?

It was a satisfying and entertaining story that left enough unanswered questions and loose threads to have me coming back to listen to the sequels.

Which character – as performed by Neal Arango – was your favorite?

Neal does a great job giving each character a distinct voice and personality. I liked Captain Jones as well as Chandra.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

This book is full of intense battle scenes. Neal's narration of them was immersing and kept me in the story.

Classic alien invasion updated for the near future

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would. Overall I did enjoy the book. It was very entertaining. It certainly borrowed from some existing sci-fi and invasion tropes, but overall the author weaves an interesting and engaging tale.

What other book might you compare Battle Earth to and why?

I would say it is closest to the film "Independence Day" but some comparisons can be made to the classic "War of the Worlds."

Which scene was your favorite?

I really enjoyed when the heavy Russian tanks showed up and started really turning the tide of battle.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes I thought it would have been a good read for a single sitting. Alas I did not have time for such.

Great Sci-fi

What did you love best about Battle Earth?

Great story line with lots of twists and turns. This story had a nice mix of sci-fi and adventure that merged really well.

What about Neal Arango’s performance did you like?

Neal is a very good narrator that seems to always get the voices just right. This was very well read as I felt like I was right there involved in the story.

We are getting our butts kicked

I recieved this audio book for free in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this story, I feel like this was exactly the kind of story that would have come from the ground troops that weren't focused on in the Independence Day movie if they made another verison from a different POV. My only concern to the production was the background noise was very noticeable. More sound proofing or something was needed. I would still recommend it though.

Battle Earth- Audiobook Version

Battle Earth is a straightforward alien invasion war story. Little is known of the invaders beyond their hardware, because they do not attempt to communicate or offer terms. Being armored and hard to defeat in battle, Earth forces take tremendous losses in every fight.

There are a lot of battle scenes in the novel, but the story is pretty much on rails without a twist or turn in the plot. Being the first in a series, this might be reserved for later installments. A good plot twist or two would have made the story more interesting. Thomas takes the reader from one battle to another at a good pace, with a few victory or rallying speeches scattered about in between.

Excellent!!

This audiobook was excellent, and kind of scary. Not scary in the traditional sense, but scary because this could really happen. Who know what the government plans to do if the aliens came out of the sky tomorrow. But luckily, I love anything that's scary! This book was non stop action. I am looking forward to reading/ listening to the next book. The narrator also did an amazing job! This book was amazing! I most definitely recommend.

This book was given to me at my request (Thanx Neal!). I am providing a voluntary and honest review.
