About this listen

In 2101, having conquered the Solar System, most humans are choosing to tie their minds to an Artificial Intelligence. The only place to be free of AI is living off-world, with Saturn and its vast system of moons serving as the wild frontier. The only caveats to living there: the funds to fly a billion miles into space and a pledge to keep vigil against the threat of AI. Otherwise, what you do out there is your business.

Career scoundrel/petty-thief Caleb Day finds himself broke and unemployed when he arrives at his new home among the colonists of Saturn's moons, so he takes a job as a cop. When law enforcement takes a turn for the less-than-just, Caleb refuses to sit idly back. After rescuing and escaping with several civilians, Caleb and his new comrades are now fugitives who must beg, borrow, and steal their way across Saturn's moon colonies to survive. Tensions rise as Earthlings begin looking at Off-Worlders as threats. Keeping his friends safe among Saturn's moons is no longer Caleb's only challenge - he must find a way to protect the last vestige of remaining free humans if they all want any hope at staying alive.

A swashbuckling space opera, Bastion Saturn is a dramatic, often humorous, action-packed romp that explores the best and worst of humankind while questioning the very definition of humanity.

Very Enjoyable

The story and the narration were great. I will be looking for more books by the writer and narrator. The only negative point at all was the continual peace dude hippie slang, that took you out of the story.

OK

Not a bad work. I did not care for the third person narration covering so much of the work, and the narrator was flat voiced to my ear. Grand potential here, though the story's been done many times before. Liked the strong female characters and it was just engaging enough to make me finish. Solid three stars over all. Four for the story itself.

Such potential

I really enjoyed the narrator; he did a fine job with characters ' voices, inflections and getting the ambiance . What I tired of was the rather juvenile decent into sexual fantasy, usually just when the plot was thickening. While I accept that it was probably realistic, I don't feel it contributed to the story, and in fact, I quickly grew bored with it and had to jump forward til the story picked up again. I liked the strong female characters, and the whole AI concept. I am not bonded enough with any of the characters to read any further, however

Smart, Geeky, Space-Travel Sci-Fi

Now and then I need a dose of smart, geeky, space-travel sci-fi. This hit the spot and then some. The story is clever and creative, and the tone is goofy/fun - reminding me of John Scalzi and Dennis Taylor. There is a robot character that won my heart - he's probably the best robot ever!

Disappointed

The premise of the story was very interesting. But then the author has to throw in f-bombs and other swearing on every page. If you don't know how to write or speak, you cuss. Author would be well advised to edit his book story. Leave out the language and he'd have a pretty interesting story.
