  • Dairo Antonio Úsuga David, known as "Otoniel," was a notorious Colombian drug lord and the leader of the Clan del Golfo, one of Colombia's most violent and powerful criminal organizations. The Clan del Golfo is responsible for extensive drug trafficking operations, exporting multi-ton shipments of cocaine from Colombia to the United States and other countries.

    Otoniel was captured by Colombian military and law enforcement forces on October 23, 2021, after evading capture for years by moving around the Paramillo Massif and using his network of family members and associates for protection. Following his arrest, Otoniel was extradited to the United States in May 2022, where he faced multiple charges, including running a criminal organization, conspiracy to distribute narcotics by sea, and conspiracy to import narcotics. In January 2023, he pleaded guilty in a New York courtroom, acknowledging his role in trafficking nearly 100 tons of cocaine to the United States.

    Under Otoniel's leadership, the Clan del Golfo employed brutal tactics to maintain control over its territories, including violence against law enforcement, rival drug traffickers, and civilians. The organization funded its operations through drug trafficking and imposed a "tax" on other traffickers operating in their controlled areas​.
