    Joseph McBride is a renowned film historian and a professor in the School of Cinema at San Francisco State University. He is the author of several notable biographies, including those of Frank Capra, John Ford, and Steven Spielberg, as well as critical studies of directors such as Ernst Lubitsch, Billy Wilder, and the Coen Brothers. McBride has written extensively on Orson Welles, publishing three books on the legendary filmmaker. In addition to his writing, he acted in Welles' The Other Side of the Wind and has won a Writers Guild of America award. McBride has been a journalist since 1960, contributing to major publications like the New York Times Book Review, The New York Review of Books, Life, Los Angeles Times Magazine, and The Nation.
