Paul möchte zum Feierabend eine Runde schwimmen gehen. Es ist heiß im August, und das Wochenende lockt. Seit Tagen stöhnen alle wegen der immensen Hitze. Da das Frühsommer-Wetter eher durchwachsen war, fühlt sich nicht nur Paul hin- und hergerissen. Freude über die Sonne oder Stöhnen wegen der Hitze? Die ganze Woche über gab es dies und das an Kleinigkeiten im stickigen Büro zu tun. Doch nun lockt das erfrischende Wasser.
Er kommt nicht so ohne Weiteres ins Wochenende. Ein verstörter, möglicherweise betrunkener Mann sorgt für Chaos. Er behauptet Dinge von Bedrohung über Mord und Komplott, die sehr bei den Haaren herbeigezogen klingen. Und doch lassen sie Paul nicht mehr los. Zu allem Unglück ist seine Kollegin Lisa Gehring, mit der er sich gerne dazu austauschen würde, im Urlaub.
Die beiden anderen Mitarbeiter seines Fachbereiches, Kevin Maus und Timo Ritter, reizt eher das warme Wetter als der ominöse Besucher. Sie sind schon mental ins Wochenende abgetaucht. Kevin Maus hat endlich seine große Liebe entdeckt. Und diese hat ihn zum Schwimmsport animiert. Voller Motivation taucht Kevin immer öfter in die Wellen des heimischen Freibads ab.
Der mysteriöse Besucher verschwindet aus freien Stücken aus dem LKA-Bau und wird bald ermordet aufgefunden. Ist doch etwas an seinen Behauptungen dran gewesen? Stimmte es, was er behauptete?
Paul muss die geschilderten Begebenheiten, die bis zum Silvestertag des letzten Jahres zurückreichen, neu aufrollen und überprüfen. Er entdeckt eine Verbindung des Besuchers zu einer Silvesterfeier im Saarlouiser Umfeld. Doch statt der gewünschten Aufklärung wird es immer verworrener.
Eine Spur führt nach Saarbrücken. In einem dortigen Altenheim haben sich Dinge zugetragen, die zum Fall zu gehören scheinen, genau wie in einem saarländischen Unternehmen, dessen Geschäftsführer auf ungewöhnliche Weise verstarb ist.
Es ist kompliziert, die einzelnen Fäden zusammenzufügen.
