  • This Independence Day has me thinking a lot about freedom and the cost of freedom. My friend Romy Camargo is a wounded Green Beret who was shot through the neck defending America. He’s now paralyzed from the shoulders down and lives on a ventilator. He says that although the injury radically altered his life, "the American people are worth it.” Are we? There is a cost for freedom that’s becoming harder and harder to pay as a civil society. Nobody is coming to make sure we pay it. It has to come from citizens. You and me.
