Publisher's summary

Finn Harris should have been the one to die.

But he wasn't - his wife took his place. What was worse, he only had himself and his company to blame. They let their passion outpace their prudence, determined to revolutionize the world. While all innovation comes with a price, he never imagined it would cost him Rachael.

Nearly a decade later, Finn is content to hole himself up and wait out the rest of his life - what little he has left. That is, until his daughter intervenes, forcing him out of his grief and into a new virtual reality game developed by his old employer. They're calling it Awaken Online, and she believes there's something unusual going on inside the game. And since Finn knows the company, knows their tactics - she might be right.

Finn wasn't sure what he expected to find when he logged in. But it certainly wasn't a manipulative fire god or a school for mages - where the students are pitted against each other in deadly duels and the faculty isn't shy about maiming or injuring novice mages to prove a point.

Now Finn must learn to fight, for his own life and a chance at redemption. He'll need to prove that his fire hasn't been snuffed out.

That there's still an ember burning...

So good!

This was definitely an upgrade to this storyline. I was thoroughly impressed and anticipated going to work so I could listen to the next part.
If I had anything negative to say about it, it would be the grand finale. The fight just wasn't as exciting for what I anticipated, but it was good nonetheless.
I cannot, but of course have no choice, wait for the next installment.

well done! what a fantastic story line

the author has done an amazing job of adding complexity to the story line. The combination of emotion and technical realism is fantastic. my favorite book in the series yet

Narrator is as boring as bill Stein (clear eyes for dry eyes guy)

Please change him. This book would be amazing with a better narrator.
Just like the other AO books in this universe, the author has unique ideas. But it has taken me a long time to even listen to this due to the dread of having to endure David stifel. Sorry David

At first I was hesitant, wanting more of Jason and his friends but I was pleasantly surprised to see this is Just as good as the main story. If you have any doubts, pick this up!

If I could give it 10 stars I would.

This book, like all of the Awaken online series, is another amazing addiction. I've been waiting for Flame to come out so I can buy both kindle and audiobook. My favorite moment is when he finally accepts the flame and gets a taste of what he can become. My friend and I have been waiting for the moment to see if he and Jason will become allies or enemies... So far this is just the first book and he is amazing... but I've been following Jason since he started and now I'm debating with my friend if they become enemies, which one is stronger. Thanks Travis for these amazing books and time.

Warren.

My Favorite in the series!

I have enjoyed all of the Awaken Online books and find it to be one of my favorite series in the genre. When I saw that Ember was outside of the original series and didn't contain any of the main characters from the other books I was skeptical. I am so glad I decide to give this a listen. It was a wonderful story and I am excited for the next book.

It's getting better. Didn't think it could.

A new main lead with new objectives. This isn't some kid's ambition betting it all. This is a smart old man with nothing to lose. Mr. Bagwell hasn't let me down yet. Buying the sequal.

ALWAYS GOOD

This series never lets me down. It always gives interesting characters in fun situations. It's a little predictable but in just the right way. Taking you to places that you think it will go but doing it in a really interesting way with a few twists along the way. Really good.

A good LITRPG story...

A good LITRPG story with a twisted ending that I'm not sure I buy. I'm thinking it has to be a ruse. We'll see though because I'm on to the next book in the series right now!
