About this listen

Amidst the enchanting snowfall and twinkling candlelight of Regency England's holiday season, a tale of redemption and reawakened hearts unfolds in Au Revoir, My Duke. Lady Charlotte Ashbourne stands on the precipice of ruin, her family's fortune ruthlessly stolen by the enigmatic and brooding Duke of Ravenscroft, Grant Tilbury. Driven by desperation, Charlotte is determined to reclaim her family's honor and fortune from the man who ruined them.

Grant Tilbury, a notorious rogue, revels in a life of vice and leisure with no intentions of settling down. However, when he crosses paths with the spirited and beautiful Lady Charlotte, he finds himself intrigued. Unable to resist the challenge, he makes her an indecent proposal. Seeing an opportunity for revenge, Charlotte devises a daring plan: accept his indecent proposal, make him fall in love with her, bring him to his knees, and then shatter his heart as he did her family's.

As Christmas magic weaves its spell, the boundaries between pretense and reality begin to blur. Charlotte finds herself unexpectedly drawn to Grant, discovering hidden depths and vulnerabilities in him that she never anticipated. Grant, too, is captivated by Charlotte's fiery spirit and unyielding determination, finding himself entangled in emotions he thought he’d forever forsaken.

With secrets unveiled and their game of hearts taking an unexpected turn, the holiday festivities become a backdrop for a passionate battle of wills. Will Charlotte's quest for vengeance be overtaken by an undeniable love? Can the rogue Duke find redemption in the embrace of the woman who sought to destroy him? As their hearts intertwine and the true spirit of the season works its magic, the fate of their love hangs in the balance. Will Charlotte bid adieu to the Duke forever, or will love triumph in the most unexpected of ways?

Grant and Charlotte

I enjoyed Charlotte's story. Charlotte is a strong spirited woman who wants to avenge the situation which landed her family in financial and social ruin, at the hands of Grant, the Duke of Ravenscroft. She thinks he is a villain. He proposed a daring and risky offer, to stay at his home with him until twelfth night. This could be social ruin for her, but she is already ruined! Close proximity, she realizes he is not what she believed. Of course, close proximity breeds romance. It is a sweet story. I can absolutely see the individuals and the reality of their lives. This story moves at a good pace. The characters are well developed and interesting. The story line fits into the narrative of the time period in which it is placed. I reviewed the audio book, the narration was well done, and a pleasure to listen to.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Revenge by Charlotte!

This was a revenge which Grant Tilbury, Duke of Ravenscroft did not expect. Not in a million years!
And Lady Charlotte Ashbourne was the cause - but actually, it was a legitimate case of 'but he started it first', which children often say when told to stop fighting, for example.
I was so happy when they found their happy ever after - what a relief that was!
This was a deliciously engrossing story, well written into the bargain and I loved every single part of it.
This narrator is unfortunately not my favourite one, however, the rendition was done pleasantly enough.
I have just finished listening to an early copy of the audio version having previously read the book and am quite happy to leave my voluntary review of it.

Loved the characters ....

Loved the characters, not the narrator. I am a huge fan of any story that does not paint the woman as a damsel in distress. Mariel dared to buck tradition and create a heroine with a fierce personality and determination of heart. Charlotte and Grant are a sassy firework that gets under your skin and sticks to the heart. I cannot say the same about Albers' narration. It was missing spirit. More personality was needed.
