About this listen
The oldest translation of a gospel is returned to the world by a secret society long dedicated to its preservation. In it, Jesus explicitly condemns bigotry and homophobia. In a new world in which LGBTQ passengers receive preferential boarding for flights and the United States has elected its first lesbian president, Pastor Rick Harris is stalwart, closeted preacher who doggedly holds on to his increasingly unpopular convictions.
When an incendiary sermon goes too far and offends an influential family, Rick makes a painful choice to keep his job: He attends an atonement camp run by drag queens for society’s most unrepentant and terminally incurable homophobes.
Atonement Camp is immersion therapy for Pastor Harris, and it might be working. An open bar with pedicures, a devastatingly attractive roommate, and an endless supply of glitter help him manage to make new friends. Soon, Rick and his cohorts learn the camp may hold its own secrets. Amid the smiling faces and scantily clad pool boys who staff the camp, a clandestine group plots to discredit the New Revelation and everything it stands for.
If Rick has the conviction to confront his own hypocrisy, he might be able to uncover the conspirators with help from his adopted flock - and find new truths within himself.

Bookstore owner Aubrey Barnes likes his quiet, orderly London life, thank you very much. His shop may be struggling, his only employee is a menace, and his plumbing is one creaky pipe away from disaster, but he can handle it. Maybe. He cannot, however, handle the film company that's thrown his Soho street into chaos. And he definitely can't handle the charismatic American actor Blake Sinclair.

Like most young women, they’ve struggled with their bodies and food since childhood, and high school finds them turning to food - or not - to battle the waves of insecurity and the yearning for popularity. But their connection can be as destructive as it is supportive, a yin to yang. When Rose stops eating, Lily starts - consuming everything Rose won’t or can’t.

Story
Life is hard enough for a teenage girl in 1950s suburbia without having a mother who may—or may not—be a witch. A single mother at that. Sure, she fits in with her starched dresses, string of pearls, and floral aprons. Then there are the hushed and mystical consultations with neighborhood women in distress. The unsavory, mysterious plants in the flower beds. The divined warning to steer clear of a boyfriend whose fate is certainly doomed.

Garland Moore used to believe in magic, the power of optimism, and signs from the universe. Then her husband surprised her with divorce papers over Valentine's Day dinner. Now Garland isn’t sure what to believe anymore, except that she’s clearly never meant to love again. When new friends invite her to spend a week at their reopened sleepaway camp, she and her sister decide it’s an opportunity to enjoy the kind of summer getaway they never had as kids. If Garland still believed in signs, this would sure seem like one.

Story
It's been said that all great literature boils down to one of two stories—a man takes a journey, or a stranger comes to town. While mystery writers have been successfully using both approaches for generations, there's something undeniably alluring in the nature of a stranger: the uninvited guest, the unacquainted neighbor, the fish out of water. In the newest collection of stories by the Mystery Writers of America, each author weaves a fresh tale surrounding the eerie feeling that comes when a stranger enters our midst, featuring stories by prolific mystery writers.

Dr. Emilie Getz and Jonas Fielding are as different as two people - of the same age, with the same faith, living in the same small Pennsylvania town - could possibly be. She's a first-class neatnik; he's a world-class slob. She's into saving historical relics; he's into saving souls. But perhaps opposites do attract. The priest, the drag queen and the conspiracy
In his first novel, young author Evan J. Corbin introduces the reader to a world that has been changed. A momentous archaeological discovery, an ancient manuscript, a religious revelation, equality for everyone, no matter their sexual orientation and a priest that cannot accept the new dogma. This is what happens when the unwilling priest is forced to go to the atonement camp for unrepentant homophobes, in order to keep his job. But, once he arrives, he realizes that maybe things are not as bad as he thinks.
A secluded location, drag queens, attractive pool boys, and a mysterious conspiracy will compel him to embark on a journey of self-discovery.
Experienced actor and voiceover artist Christopher Solon brings all these colorful and fascinating characters to life with a balanced performance. He reads at a steady pace, switching with ease between voices and accents, infusing this already intense story with even more urgency.
Fast paced, well written, easy to follow, interesting, funny and entertaining, this debut novel will keep the listener glued to his earbuds until the end. With an original plot and a diverse and inclusive cast of characters, Atonement Camp for Unrepentant Homophobes is a novel that should be experienced by everyone who is interested in the LGBTQ way of life.

An absolutely brilliant and engaging listen!
“𝙉𝙤 𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙝𝙤𝙥𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙨𝙨. 𝙉𝙤 𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙗𝙚𝙮𝙤𝙣𝙙 𝙧𝙚𝙙𝙚𝙢𝙥𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣”
In a world where the oldest Gospel of Mark, that was previously sworn to secrecy, has been rediscovered and the world as we know it has evolved and progressed and all people are treated with respect, no matter how they identify. One Pastor refuses to accept the New Revelation and continues preaching the old ways.
Pastor Rick Harri's homophobic sermons are turning away loyal Parishners away from the church.
John Beck is one parishner in particular who has helped the Parish flourish. Not only does his family fund nearly forty percent of the Church's revenue, but he is also instrumental in organizing activities and festivities that help get the church get recognition and thrive.
If they lose his family, the other Parishners will soon follow in his footsteps.
But Rick is adamant to follow in his father's footsteps and preach the old ways. Despite the church elders orders he continues preaching his crude, homophobic sermons.
But when he admonishes Ryan, John Beck's son and tries to turn the town against him, it doesn't bode well in his favor.
He has two options, get fired or go to an atonement camp.
He needs the Church's support to help pay his bills and support his ailing mother. So, going to the atonement camp was never a choice for him.
Here, Pastor Rick is transported to a whole new world. With fierce drag queens and scantily clad pool boys. He struggles adapting with the vibrant, out and proud people around him. At first, he hates the place, their ideals and the people there, but slowly but slowly they start growing on him. Moreover, his new roommate is quite easy on the eyes too and all his deep buried desires that he kept locked away for so many years, come rushing back.
“𝙒𝙚 𝙙𝙤𝙣’𝙩 𝙘𝙧𝙮 𝙗𝙚𝙘𝙖𝙪𝙨𝙚 𝙬𝙚 𝙡𝙤𝙨𝙩 𝙨𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜,”
“𝙒𝙚 𝙘𝙧𝙮 𝙗𝙚𝙘𝙖𝙪𝙨𝙚 𝙬𝙚 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙯𝙚 𝙬𝙚 𝙣𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙝𝙖𝙙 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙬𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙬𝙚 𝙙𝙞𝙙.”
Pastor Rick has been struggling with his inner demons for a long time.
He is closeted and refuses to accept himself for who he is.
This book throws light on how people struggle with self acceptance and self love, and then project that same self hatred towards people around them.
The author has beautifully captured the essence of this book in creating a refreshing and accepting world with progressive times. The world building was quite unique and refreshing.
The author depicts toxic masculinity in a whole new light!
I absolutely loved the growth and evolution of Pastor Rick. It was an emotional, poignant and touching journey. It was a journey towards self discovery and finally letting go of the inhibitions that held him behind.
We also get snippets of his back story and the reason why he is so closeted and so firmly rooted in his beliefs.
"𝘽𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙝 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙘𝙧𝙖𝙨𝙨 𝙨𝙝𝙚𝙡𝙡 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙗𝙚𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝘽𝙞𝙗𝙡𝙚, 𝙄 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙠 𝙮𝙤𝙪’𝙧𝙚 𝙖 𝙜𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙜𝙪𝙮 𝙖𝙩 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙩. 𝙃𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙨𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙩𝙤𝙤. 𝙅𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙖 𝙩𝙖𝙙𝙥𝙤𝙡𝙚 𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙧, 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙮 𝙨𝙖𝙮."
Finally, at the end, he emerges a changed man, through self discovery, learning to love again and through heartache he evolves. Along the way he also gets a chance to get reacquainted with someone he thought he lost forever.
This book address issues of homophobia and touches upon self acceptance and self discovery.
The dialogue was authentic and hilarious at times, and each character had a unique voice.
The mystery behind the letters and the artifact was intriguing and made the plot all the more compelling.
Overall a poignant and enjoyable read of one's man journey towards self discovery.
Eileen and Marilyn were absolute Queens and I loved them. The twist at the end had me reeling and I never saw it coming.
The ending is a HFN and gives a hint at a promise for more. Maybe a sequel?

OMG, OMG… I freaking love this book!
I love this book, I love when they go to the camp and I absolutely love the ending. This whole book was awesome. It was funny it flowed well and I can’t recommend it enough. That is unless you are a homophobe LOL! This book is so good I know I said that and so I will end this review, because that is all that keeps popping in my mind is how much I love this book. I wish I could read it again, but since I know how it ends it wouldn’t be the same. I will probably read it again but not anytime soon. If you love laughs and love good stories with the original plot read this book it is so so good! Oh before I end this review I just want to say the narrator was so good which made the book even better if that’s possible he did the voice is so well and so distinctly you knew who was talking before he said the name. He is really good.

Enjoyed It a Lot
This is a great story, full of humor, witty dialogue and not very likable characters that I liked a lot. The idea that biggest homophobes sometimes stuck in the closet is not new, but I really liked how Evan J Corbin explored it and enjoyed unique setting of the Atonement Camp full of drag queens and pool boys. Narrator was new to me and it took me few chapters to get used to his voice and start enjoying his performance style. Overall this was a good listening experience and I am looking forward to more stories by this author.

A Story About Loving Yourself
4.5 out of 5 stars
The title of this book doesn’t not give a lot away, and I was honestly hesitant at first because I couldn’t tell which side of the debate it was going to be on. Thankfully I read the synopsis and had a slightly better feeling, but once I dug into other reviews for it, I quickly realized that this book was going to be up my alley.
Atonement Camp is one of those books that when you start it, even what I said above feels like it goes out the windows. The first almost quarter of the book shows exactly who Rick is or at least who Rick is trying to convince himself that he is. Then we’re treated to some flashback scenes that flip everything on its head. Once we get into more of Rick’s backstory, it’s not that you start to like him, but I started to stop disliking him some. It wasn’t until almost the end of the book, once (trying not to spoil) things actually change in his life, that he’s a likeable character that you realize was living a life that wasn’t really his choosing (maybe a slight spoiler, sorry!).
I will say that this book was great. It was funny, interesting, and most of all tells a story about loving who you truly are. No matter what that costs. But more than that it was also a little bit of a thriller book as well, with scenes that had me guessing who was infiltrating the Atonement Camp and who certain people worked for and why. It was a really interesting mix of a story and one that I won’t forget for some time.
Overall, an enjoyable story that I flew though in about two days. A story of love, specifically about learning to love yourself. Something that we all need to be reminded of from time to time.

a witty, thought-provoking, clever story
When I started this book, I was not sure what to expect, who to dislike, or what to feel. I really didn’t like the main character, until I did. I thought it was hilarious, then thought maybe I shouldn’t be laughing at this? I was conflicted about my feelings until the end but was completely engaged the whole time. Now that I have read it in its entirety, I know that this is a really witty, thought-provoking, and clever book that I very much enjoyed. Christopher Solon’s narration made it even better.

standing ovation!
I applaud the author for his writing of this wonderful story. It's written with compassion. The story touches on how gay and lesbian have been treated, to the point of hiding who they are, in order to make everyone happy. I was thrilled the main character admitted to himself who he is and keeps his job.
The narration was spot on. The character voices were excellent. The narration was smooth and easy to follow.
