About this listen

From the acclaimed author of Lies We Tell Ourselves, Robin Talley, comes a Shakespeare-inspired story of revenge and redemption, where fair is foul, and foul is fair.

Maria Lyon and Lily Boiten are their school’s ultimate power couple - but one thing stands between them and their perfect future: campus superstar Delilah Dufrey. Golden child Delilah is a legend at exclusive Acheron Academy, and the presumptive winner of the distinguished Cawdor Kingsley Prize.

But Delilah doesn’t know that Lily and Maria are willing to do anything - absolutely anything - to unseat Delilah for the scholarship. After all, it would lock in Maria’s attendance at Stanford - and assure her and Lily four more years in a shared dorm room.Together, Maria and Lily harness the dark power long rumored to be present on the former plantation that houses their school. But when feuds turn to fatalities, and madness begins to blur the distinction between what’s real and what’s imagined, the girls must attempt to put a stop to the chilling series of events they’ve accidentally set in motion.

I loooove this book.

Beautiful book. I had to read it for my English class but oh my goodness the twists were amazing. Very similar to Macbeth. You did good Talley. Make me more!!!

Weak story, performance, etc

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I'm not even sure. Probably the much younger side of YA fans. Most of the time YA can translate for a fun, easy listen for adults. This story was wholly boring, I couldn't invest in any of the characters, and the performance was so bad that it was distracting to the half-baked plot.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Nothing by this narrator or author.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Horrible "latin" accents. It was brutal.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

I was instantly annoyed by the narrator's attempt at accents but wanted to look past it to give the story a fair shot. When it didn't deliver, I was just blah. I finished it for the sake of completion.

Any additional comments?

Nope.
