About this listen
The keep of Westwind, located in the cold mountainous heights called the Roof of the World, is facing attack by the adjoining land of Gallos. Arthanos, son and heir to the ailing Prefect of Gallos, wishes to destroy Westwind because the idea of a land where women rule, no matter how small and how isolated, is total anathema to him. Saryn, Arms-Commander of Westwind, is dispatched to the neighboring land of Lornth to seek support against the Gallosians. But Zeldyan, regent of Lornth, has problems in her family. To secure Zeldyan's aid, Saryn must pledge her personal support - and any Westwind guard forces she can raise - to the defense of Zeldyan and her son. The fate of four lands, including Westwind, depend on Saryn's actions.

Needed Female Narrator
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
While the narrator did a good job, almost all the characters in this book were female.

One of the best in the Saga!
One of the best in the Recluce Saga! Maybe as a woman I enjoyed having a strong female protagonists. The series, although having important female characters but few that lead and whose character becomes so clear as the novel progresses.

Very good and well written book.
From the beginning of the book the author drew me in and kept my attention through out the entire book. The narrator brings life to all the characters in a way that few can only dream of doing.

Another in an excellent series.
I love the characters and the development of the scenes. Each could be stand alone, but the seamless reflection on areas previously written ties it all together.

whining
constant whining about women are victims. if you are trying to make a statement about women being treated equally then show them being equal. instead the only women who are equal are either alien or have magic powers. The book can't go 10 minutes without another diatribe about women not being treated right. if you have to blame someone else about being a victim you are still a victim. I listen to the book for action, adventure and fantasy. You made your point in the first 15 minutes, it just became annoying after that.

Not very interesting
This story did not have a strong point and interesting plot. It was feeling that the author did not know how to unfold the story, was going in different directions, and then just made a happy, and unlikely ending.
