Chillyindeed, but warming to the soul.

At the advanced age of 87, ihave so many excellent Nordic authors. I have found all to be intelligent and vastly interesting. I hope I can read or mostly listen to every one before I pass on. And perhaps they e is a library in Heaven’

Great story

I really enjoyed the combination of story and reading. It presents an imagery of iceland & it's people along with a meandering but intriguing plot. Indridason always tells an excellent story and this audiobook is the perfect presentation. This is my 4th venture ibto his characters & I will get the rest

Another one from an Icelandic great

Where it's really "noir" most of the winter. One of the best of this genre. Excellent sides to the main story, and good characters. I love listening to these all the time I'm in my car even around town.

Another great Arnaldur Indridason Iceland mystery

Any additional comments?

Not sure if other reviewers listened to the same book. This is a wonderful installment of the Erlendur series. The story is rich with atmosphere and George Guidall's narration is again, spot on. For avid followers, this book also provides some interesting insight into Sigurdur Oli.

Truly enjoyed this Icelandic dectective novel

Would you listen to Arctic Chill again? Why?

Not in the next six months, but probably in the future to review the story. This is the first time for this author and I plan to listen to more of his books.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Arctic Chill?

The ending. It was tragic but oh so true to the ways of teens, acting without thought or purpose.

What does George Guidall bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

George Guidall is one of the best audible book readers. I have listened to many of his books and enjoy them every time mostly because of his skill to put you into the book.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The beginning and terrible waste of a young life.

Another interesting Icelandic murder mystery

I find this author’s books very interesting. The Icelandic culture is enough different from American that it adds quite a bit to the story.
Narration by George Guidall is outstanding, as usual.

What disappointed you about Arctic Chill?

Hard to follow, slow uninteresting plot, boring to read

What was most disappointing about Arnaldur Indridason’s story?

It did not capture me as a reader as most mysteries to. It was not in league with other Nordic writers such as Jo Nesbo

What didn’t you like about George Guidall’s performance?

No problem with the reader it was the book

What character would you cut from Arctic Chill?

Eliminating a character would not enhance the book

Any additional comments?

Disappointing, 1st chapter is ok but then it goes downhill

Fails to deliver on many levels

I wish I would have checked the reviews before I bought this book. I chose this book after reading Jar City by the same author, which is a decidedly better book than this one. Arctic Chill crawls along at a snail's pace, with little in the way of a plot to engage the reader. None of the characters is fleshed out in much depth, and the final solution to the mystery more or less comes out of nowhere. At best this book could be read as a mood piece of an Iceland that is dark, cold, and bleak. Even the introduction of an immigrant family from Thailand, which could have offered some very interesting opportunities for social commentary and dramatic tension, never ascends much above cliche. All in all, a big disappointment.

Don't waste your credit

What disappointed you about Arctic Chill?

This book was boring beyond measure. It never went anywhere. I always finish listening to my books but this one was a real struggle to continue. Perhaps the worst book I have listened to in a very long time.

What do you think your next listen will be?

A mystery

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

The narrator was fine. Have heard him many times and liked his style and voice. The book just has no zing or interest.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Arctic Chill?

The entire book
