Acerca de esta escucha
Alone with her new husband on a tiny Pacific atoll, a young woman, combing the beach, finds an odd aluminum container washed up out of the lagoon, and beside it on the sand something glitters: a gold tooth in a scorched human skull. The investigation that follows uncovers an extraordinarily complex and puzzling true-crime story. Only Vincent Bugliosi, who recounted his successful prosecution of mass murderer Charles Manson in the best seller Helter Skelter, was able to draw together the hundreds of conflicting details of the mystery and reconstruct what really happened when four people found hell in a tropical paradise. And the Sea Will Tell reconstructs the events and subsequent trial of a riveting true murder mystery, and probes into the dark heart of a serpentine scenario of death.

Historia
On June 25, 1973, a seven-year-old girl went missing from the Montana campground where her family was vacationing. Somebody had slit open the back of their tent and snatched her from under their noses. None of them saw or heard anything. Susie Jaeger had vanished into thin air, plucked by a shadow. As days stretched into weeks, and weeks into months, Special Agent Pete Dunbar attended a workshop at FBI Headquarters in Quantico, Virgina, led by two agents who had hatched a radical new idea: What if criminals left a psychological trail that would lead us to them?

In the pantheon of serial killers, Belle Gunness stands alone. She was the rarest of female psychopaths, a woman who engaged in wholesale slaughter, partly out of greed but mostly for the sheer joy of it. Between 1902 and 1908, she lured a succession of unsuspecting victims to her Indiana “murder farm". Some were hired hands. Others were well-to-do bachelors. All of them vanished without a trace.

Prosecuting attorney in the Manson trial Vincent Bugliosi held a unique insider's position in one of the most baffling and horrifying cases of the 20th century: the cold-blooded Tate-LaBianca murders carried out by Charles Manson and four of his followers. What motivated Manson in his seemingly mindless selection of victims, and what was his hold over the young women who obeyed his orders? Now available for the first time in unabridged audio, the gripping story of this famous and haunting crime is brought to life by acclaimed narrator Scott Brick.

On March 29, 1975, sisters Katherine and Sheila Lyons, ages 10 and 12, vanished from a shopping mall in suburban Washington, DC. As shock spread, then grief, a massive police effort found nothing. The investigation was shelved, and the mystery endured. Then, in 2013, a cold case squad detective found something he and a generation of detectives had missed. It pointed them toward a man named Lloyd Welch, then serving time for child molestation in Delaware.

Polls reveal that 85 percent of Americans believe there was a conspiracy behind Lee Harvey Oswald. Some even believe Oswald was entirely innocent. In this encyclopedic, absorbing audiobook, Vincent Bugliosi shows how the public has come to believe such lies about the day that changed the course of history. Bugliosi has devoted almost 20 years of his life to this project, and is determined to show that, despite the overwhelming popular perception, Oswald killed Kennedy and acted alone.

What's more, hundreds of human remains are discovered every year and lie waiting to be identified in drawers, boxes, and unmarked graves scattered across Canada.

Historia
For 10 years, the California Interstate 5 highway was haunted by a dangerous serial killer. Incredibly skilled at staying ahead of the investigators as the bodies started to pile up, there wasn't enough evidence to charge the culprit with murder even once he'd been identified. Instead, they had to build a first-degree murder case in a few months while the killer was locked up on an assault conviction. Key to this was a cast of four: Vito Bertocchini, Kay Maulsby, Ray Biondi, and Faye Springer.

Under the Trestle is the true story of the most compelling murder case in Virginia history. In 1980, Gina Renee Hall, a Radford University freshman, went to a Virginia Tech nightclub on a Saturday night. She was never seen again. Her abandoned car was found parked beneath a railroad trestle bridging the New River, with blood in the trunk. The investigation led police to a secluded cabin on Claytor Lake, where there was evidence of a violent attack. Former Virginia Tech football player Stephen Epperly was charged with murder, despite the fact that Gina's body was never found.

On October 23, 1989, affluent businessman Charles Stuart made a frantic 911 call from his car to report that he and his seven-months-pregnant wife, Carol, a lawyer, had been robbed and shot by a Black male in the Mission Hill neighborhood of Boston. By the time police arrived, Carol was dead, and the baby was soon lost as well. The attack incited a furor during a time of heightened racial tension in the community. Even more appalling, while the injuries were real, Stuart’s story was a hoax: He was the true killer.

Historia
On a bitterly cold afternoon in December 1986, a Michigan State trooper found the frozen body of Jerry Tobias in the bed of his pickup truck. The 31-year-old oil field worker and small-time drug dealer was clad only in jeans, a checkered shirt, and cowboy boots. Inside the cab of the truck was a fresh package of expensive steaks from a local butcher shop, the first lead in a case that would be quickly lost in a thicket of bungled forensics, shady prosecution, and a psychopathic star witness out for revenge.

Author Jason Ryan takes us back to the heady days before drug smuggling was synonymous with deadly gunplay. During this golden age of marijuana trafficking, the country's most prominent kingpins were a group of wayward and fun-loving Southern gentlemen who forsook college educations to sail drug-laden luxury sailboats across the Mediterranean, the Atlantic, and the Caribbean. Les Riley, Barry Foy, and their comrades eschewed violence as much as they loved pleasure, and it was greed, lust, and disaster at sea that ultimately caught up with them, along with the law.

The death of promising young pediatric AIDS researcher Eric Miller stunned the Raleigh, North Carolina, community, largely because of the horrific way he was killed. For months, Eric was slowly tortured as arsenic consumed his body. No one thought that Eric Miller's wife, Ann - an attractive, demure, educated scientist - could be capable of such a horrible crime. No one except for veteran homicide investigator Chris Morgan, a man in the twilight of his career. But from the moment Morgan saw the 30-year-old widow in the police department interview room, he knew he was seeing pure evil.

Weaver and fiber artist Edith “Pen” Meyer knew her friend Sandy Merritt’s relationship with a married man was wrong. She had even urged Sandy to take out a restraining order against Kenneth Carpenter. Which was why her call to Sandy on February 23, 2005, seemed to come from out of the blue. During it, she told Sandy to drop the restraining order and get back together with Ken. Pen was never seen again. One man stood to gain from Pen’s disappearance: Ken Carpenter. But evidence was bleak: no blood, no DNA, no body. Until detectives found notes hidden....

Not since The Thin Blue Line has there been a true-crime saga as engrossing as Making a Murderer. Captivating audiences across demographic lines, it made Steven Avery a household name and thrust defense attorney Jerome F. Buting - and his fight against America's dysfunctional criminal justice system - into the spotlight. In Illusion of Justice, Buting uses the Avery case as a springboard to examine the shaky integrity of our law enforcement and legal systems, which he has witnessed firsthand for nearly four decades.

It was the trial that stunned America, the verdict that shocked us all. On July 5, 2011, nearly three years after her initial arrest, Casey Anthony walked away, virtually scot-free, from one of the most sensational murder trials of all time. She'd been accused of killing her daughter, Caylee, but the trial only left behind more questions: Was she actually innocent? What really happened to Caylee? Was this what justice really looked like?

Cari, 37, was a devoted mother, reliable employee, and loyal friend - not the type to shirk responsibilities, abandon her son, and run off on an adventure while her dying father took his last breaths. Yet, the many texts from her phone indicated she had done just that. While Cari's boyfriend, Dave Kroupa, and her supervisor were bewildered by her abrupt disappearance, they accepted the texts at face value. Her mother, Nancy Raney, however, was alarmed and reported Cari missing.

Fascinating g story, well told, but...
This is a well written and well narrated book about a decades-old double murder on a remote tropical island that I was not familiar with. A fascinating and haunting story, narrative at times a little self serving as the author almost gleefully recounts each courtroom point (some quite minor) and skillful manipulation scored as if this were a tennis match rather than a search for justice. The author repeatedly emphasizes how much he believes in his client's innocence, and claims that fighting for her acquittal WAS seeking justice, and he must have written the book in a way he hoped would influence the reader to his point of view (as he put the defense case together to do this with the jury). But for this reader, at least, the opposite happened, and I was left thinking he is lucky I was not on that jury! For all his confidence that he could with certainty show his defendant had no knowledge of the crime, was a "good" person (REALLY?), and did nothing more egregious than tell some lies (but for "understandable" reasons, as if that excuses them even if you buy the reason), she came across as manipulative, self-serving, and callous. And, for every neat scenario he put forth that showed her as an innocent, somewhat naive but good-hearted girl caught up in a terrible situation, each of which which he claimed was the only reasonable conclusion, I could think of others, in some cases to me much more plausible, but also much darker and clearly indicating her involvement in the crime at some level. Bottom line the book was interesting, engaging and made me curious for more information because of the disconnect for me between the author's opinion and mine.

Great story (first half)
Very interesting first half. The second half is written with such incredible arrogance by the author about his great skills, that it was an incredible turn off. I also was not convinced about his defendant’s innocence and he was really trying to convince us!

Long but engaging from start to finish
I honestly love Vincent Bugliosi’s writing style and I love his detailed and exacting writing
I can see how some people would get bogged down in
The legal procedure or the wordy passages of background information but I love it.

The book was way too long
I slept through a lot of it and had to backtrack. The story was interesting but so much of it did not pertain to the crime.

Killer true crime, masterclass in defense law
The first half is an edge-of-your-seat true crime tale threaded with beautiful nuance. Even if you know the story, VB develops the players’ characters with enviable skill. Appropriately, as much attention is given the victims as the (admittedly more intriguing and scary) villain and his judgement-deficient girlfriend. I was 100 percent invested by the second half, which provides a painstaking account of the trial. Not every reader will be into this level of detail but I loved it. I feel like I went to a semester of law school a la Elle Woods and had the experience of defending a most interesting case. And the conclusion was delivered with such masterful storytelling that I became emotional. Phenomenal. The author/lawyer might be proud or even arrogant but he has every reason to be.

Sea worthy
I love everything Bugliosi writes and this is no exception. There is a lot of lawyer- ease in this and you definitely feel like you're on the island and in the courtroom. But it is a very sad story of greed. It's sad that there is so much violence in this world that will find you even on a "deserted" island.

As good or better than ‘Helter Skelter’
It’s a long listen which I prefer and definitely worth it. Truly creates a vivid picture. Incredible case. Bugliosi is an amazing writer as well as an attorney. I see that there is a movie which I will watch as well.

I Liked it!
I had never heard of this case prior to listening to this book, and was as engaged and interested as if I were a member of the jury. I went back and forth as to whether I thought the defendant was guilty. There were times when I found the author obnoxious and narcissistic (what’s the word for someone who is self-righteous, only instead of being thoroughly convinced of their own moral superiority, it’s their intelligence they think is superior? Anyway it’s obvious the author thinks himself a genius) This book might be too detail-oriented for some people, but I enjoyed listening to it, smug author aside. I didn’t care for the reader’s voice at first, but it grew on me as I continued to listen. I would also like to complain here that another reviewer spoiled the outcome of the trial for me after I had almost made it to the end. So shame on that guy. Anyway the first half is an enthralling, almost novel-like account of what happened on Palmyra back in the seventies. You’ll forget your listening to nonfiction. Very easy listening. The second half is every detail you could possibly want of the trial, which is where many reviewers seem to get lost. I still like it, and if you are a fan of true crime you likely will too.
