About this listen

Having solved the two murders that somehow fell in her path, Beatrice Hyde-Clare is on the lookout for a third. Through a absurd quirk of stupid fate, the shy spinster has fallen in love with the thoroughly unattainable Duke of Kesgrave and is desperate for something, anything, to occupy her mind. A dead body would do nicely.

Fortunately for her, a fellow guest from a Lake District house party appears on her doorstep with exactly that: the lover of his fiancée's mother expired after a wretchedly painful episode just that morning in an apparent poisoning. As unorthodox as it is, he would like Bea to investigate rather than calling the authorities.

Bea begins her inquiry into Mr. Wilson's death at once and almost immediately finds herself in the company of Kesgrave, who is as determined as ever to assist her. 'Twas patently unfair, for the whole point of the investigation was to get away from the handsome lord.

Now Bea is faced with the daunting challenge of exposing the villain without revealing her heart.

I liked the initial book very much, but now I love this series! I can’t wait to get to the next chapter, and then the next book. I can empathize with Bea, and I’m rooting for her and her duke. The character of Kesgrave has evolved appropriately. There are some wonderful secondary characters - her aunt (with her outrageously self-centered comments, Lady Ambercrombie, and even Flora, who has become a real friend to Bea. Delightful series in one of my favorite time periods of Regency.

The most absolutely not boring book you could choose. Beatrice makes an original heroine with whom anyone who has felt invisible can relate.
The rom-com-mystery has all the great elements that made I Capture the Castle such an enduring classic. I especially liked that now in book 3 we find that cousin Flora may have a spark of fire too.
Best read in order, but the author does spend the opening getting you up to speed if this is your introduction to the characters.

Boatload of fun

Really enjoy these books. Good narration. Only problem for me was too much repetition of former books.

Too much talk from previous books

There are few things more perfect than a Beatrice Hyde-Clare listen.

This book picks up right where book two ends. Beatrice knows her heart but not the Duke's. She's making plans to be without him and yet fate has put her in the path of another murder. That puts her back in contact with the Duke. Frolicking ensues.

I love Jill Smith's narration!! This book is part Regency romance and part cozy mystery. Without Smith's deft vocal chords, this listen does not work.

I just checked to see if there is a book four. There doesn't seem to be but I hope that's not the case. We need more Bea!!! Plus, I think Lady Abercrombie knows something!!!!!!

Perfection!

Finally she gets the Duke!

I adore this series and truly cannot get enough! Another mysterious death with no idea who the murderer is until the end

The writing and narration are perfect! On to the next

This is fast becoming one of my favorite series! I love cozy mysteries and Jane Austen style romances... this series combines the two so perfectly and throws in some comedy for good measure making these books ones that I can listen to again and again. This book picks up right where book 2 left off, thrown back into her family to explain how she came to be so badly beaten up, and then how to go on with her life and take her mind off the Duke, who she can't have. What she needs is a distraction... which doesn't seem to be a problem for her to find. I can't say enough good about these books, they are so cleverly written and developed that you get pulled in. The narration was wonderful and helped to make it even more enjoyable! A must read for those who like good clean historical fiction, romances, mysteries, and Jane Austen style books.
