About this listen

Lovely Lisanne Neville had always found solace in the verdant beauty of Sevrin Woods. But now the woods were about to be destroyed in order to pay off the gambling debts of the Duke of St. Sevrin. Clearly, drastic measures were called for. So Lisanne proposed marriage to the duke. The deal: her fortune for his woods.

The Duke of St. Sevrin put aside his bottle long enough to consider this mad bargain, recognizing he had nothing to offer this sprite of a girl save his crumbling home, hellish reputation, and mountain of bills. He accepted. It was not the beginning of a fairy-tale marriage - but never underestimate the power of love...and a little bit of magic!

Delightful!!

I loved this delightful and almost fairytale like story. It was truly enchanted! Great little story to pass the time and to keep my full interest so much so that I replayed some of the parts a few times over. The very capable and entertaining narration by Pippa Rathborne was a plus.

I Thoroughly Enjoyed It!

Which is a little wonder because the narration was a bit distracting at first.; but as the story unfolded all got caught up in the details and the drama. It was a very distinctive situation.

I was Enchanted

This was a lovely story with all the elements of a good fairy tale wrapped in a Regency romance. Filled with the magic of a child’s imagination and wicked relatives too! I hurt for our little heroine and then rejoiced in her life fulfilled. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Thoroughly different but very good! Not a romance

I think it's more of a coming of age and just a tale of a girl who did not fit in. It's a little heavier than most Metzger. But Rathborn is wonderful, as usual. Her voice is perfect for the tone of the story. She is the empress of tongue in cheek!

Enchanting!

I loved this book when I read it, a while back. Barbara Metzger is such a wonderful storyteller and her characters simply geab me. And then there is Pippa Rathborne ; such a perfect narrator. I enjoyed the book even more this time, listening to it. Pippa adds a nuance in the narration that is simply perfect. Loved it!

good story

I liked that the Duke came to Anna's rescue from her vile uncle and his family's manipulation and machinations. How greedy they were!! I wanted to shake both the Duke and Ann for their delay tactics and poor communication. Good ending. enjoyed the story. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review .
The narrator did a good job bringing it to life.

what was enchanted about this affair?

Oh gosh this was boring. there was definitely no enchantment, no love and no romance. Sloane definitely did not deserve annie. Why does the girl have to always take all of a mans mistreatments and then forgive them at the end. its like the women writing these books think thats how life is you take a mans crap then eventually forgive them no matter what they do. i wanted to punch sloane the entire time. this was just long, boring and a waste of a credit.
