About this listen

Love, loyalty, lies...twin sisterhood has a heartbreaking price.

When Victoria returns to her childhood home for her twin sister's wedding after decades of a strained relationship with her family, she recalls the devastating trauma of the high school romance that tore her family apart.

As a pretty, popular high school sophomore, Victoria discards boys as easily as she finds them, unlike her bookish and brilliant twin. When the senior football captain with a reputation of his own develops an interest in her sister, Victoria becomes wary. She’ll do anything to protect her twin, no matter what the cost.

Told as a flashback years later as Victoria wrestles with disastrous adult relationships and her sister's impending marriage, secrets kept for decades bait an emotional minefield. Will painful memories destroy their chance to reunite, or is it too late?

Written by two sisters, incorporating real adolescent memories with fictional details, American Girls looks at the best and worst of growing up girls in the 1980s Midwest and the devastating power secrets can wield over the closest of relationships.

Perfect for fans of Jodi Picoult and Joshilyn Jackson.

GREAT READ!

I really enjoyed it! The narration was great and kept me entertained. The author did a great job with the character builds and plot! This was my first book by this author but definitely not my last! I look forward to reading more books from this author! I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Wow

This stoey is amazing!! It shows the struggles of having sister. They go through alot in this story. Sisters usually tell eachother everything.. So when one keeps a secret , it is never a good thing. It definitely makes you think about sibling relationships.

American Girls

I truly enjoy books by Cecily Wolfe. They are always based on everyday situations. This is about twins that couldn’t be more different. It has flashback moments when they were in high school. The situations they experienced that shaped their present lives. If you enjoy books that don’t always end in HEA then I recommend this book. This could be based on something that everyone has experienced personally or knew someone that did. Very real scenarios.

This story was so good I loved it. It was like I could feel what Victoria was feeling. I didn't to pause this book. I wanted to know what would haven just I felt like this book didn't have a good place to pause. I love and hate that. But is how I tell this is a great book.

Beauty & Pain

This story was about two sisters with the timeline from when they were teenagers and then flipping forward to when they were 40. I can’t totally relate to how sisters are because I never had one myself until I was married but it seems to me that Victoria was views as the “bad” sister and she never did anything right in her mother’s eyes and Thora was always the perfect one who always made the best choices. After it is discovered that Thora has become pregnant which was an unspoken secret that Thora was hiding from everybody because of the awful thing that happened to her, their mother turns it back on to being Victoria’s fault once again. I wanted to slap that mother in the face. The story had its sweet and beautiful parts as well; it made me sad that it took them both so long to address the pain that was between them but I think had a beautiful outcome.

Meh…

This book just wasn’t my cup of tea. I really didn’t care for the narrator and the story just didn’t pull me in. It wasn’t bad, the writing was fine and I didn’t notice anything that turned me off of the book, I just didn’t connect with it. Maybe I would have connected with it more if I had a twin, or even a sister but I grew up an only child. I definitely think people should give this book a try for themselves because I think if you connect with the story you will probably really enjoy it.

Hearbreaking High School

Excellently written. It was honestly hard to listen to because of the raw emotions it evoked and how well it was able to sweep me back to high school. It details the good, bad, and awful experiences of high school twins and their differences. Well done.
