Acerca de esta escucha
Joe Lorimer is a genius. His finest achievement is the online role-playing game Alternative Dimension, but he sees it as more than a plaything. He is fascinated by the freedoms offered by living in a virtual world, and the more sophisticated he makes his creation the more superior it seems to the alienating, faceless, ugly realities of daily life.
Insinuated virtually into his creation, he exposes many of the psychological secrets of the folks behind the avatars. There are lovers, killers, crazies, animals, elves, vampires, even Health and Safety inspectors. Their stories are mostly wry observations on the lives we all live and the real societies they live in.
Joe's fascinating attempts to bring the real and virtual together, to fuse the person and the avatar, lead eventually to an outcome which seems a far from ideal solution. Depending on your perspective, the ending is either a triumph or a tragedy.
In a virtual reality it's easy to hook up, foster rage, and be the instigator of influence.

The adolescent Christopher and his soul mate, Toni, had sneered at the stifling ennui of Metroland, their cosy patch of suburbia on the Metropolitan line. They had longed for Life to begin - meaning Sex and Freedom - to travel and choose their own clothes. Then Chris, at 30, starts to settle comfortably into bourgeois contentment himself. Luckily, Toni is still around to challenge such backsliding.

Across seven tales, Haruki Murakami brings his powers of observation to bear on the lives of men who, in their own ways, find themselves alone. Here are lovesick doctors, students, ex-boyfriends, actors, bartenders, and even Kafka’s Gregor Samsa, brought together to tell stories that speak to us all. In Men Without Women, Murakami has crafted another contemporary classic, marked by the same wry humor and pathos that have defined his entire body of work.

Abby Field loves every inch of Meadowsweet Nature Reserve on the idyllic Suffolk coast, where she lives and works. Especially Swallowtail House, the rambling but empty country house that seems to look out at her each time she passes its shut-up windows. When a TV wildlife programme choses a rival location for their new series, Meadowsweet is under threat - unless Abby can whip up a plan to keep the visitors flocking. But she finds herself distracted by the arrival of a brooding - and annoyingly handsome - new neighbour...bad-boy novelist Jack Westcoat.

Every day Iona, a larger-than-life magazine advice columnist, travels the ten stops from Hampton Court to Waterloo Station by train, accompanied by her dog, Lulu. Every day she sees the same people, whom she knows only by nickname: Impossibly-Pretty-Constant-Reader and Terribly-Lonely-Teenager. Of course, they never speak. Seasoned commuters never do. Then one morning, the man she calls Smart-But-Sexist-Manspreader chokes on a grape right in front of her. He’d have died were it not for the timely intervention of Sanjay, a nurse, who gives him the Heimlich maneuver.
