Publisher's summary

In the propulsive debut novel from the host of the #1 true crime podcast Crime Junkie, a journalist uncovers her hometown’s dark secrets when she becomes obsessed with the unsolved murder of her childhood neighbor—and the disappearance of another girl twenty years later.

ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR: PopSugar

You can’t ever know for sure what happens behind closed doors.

Everyone from Wakarusa, Indiana, remembers the infamous case of January Jacobs, who was discovered in a ditch hours after her family awoke to find her gone. Margot Davies was six at the time, the same age as January—and they were next-door neighbors. In the twenty years since, Margot has grown up, moved away, and become a big-city journalist. But she’s always been haunted by the feeling that it could’ve been her. And the worst part is, January’s killer has never been brought to justice.

When Margot returns home to help care for her uncle after he is diagnosed with early-onset dementia, she feels like she’s walked into a time capsule. Wakarusa is exactly how she remembers—genial, stifled, secretive. Then news breaks about five-year-old Natalie Clark from the next town over, who’s gone missing under circumstances eerily similar to January’s. With all the old feelings rushing back, Margot vows to find Natalie and to solve January’s murder once and for all.

But the police, Natalie’s family, the townspeople—they all seem to be hiding something. And the deeper Margot digs into Natalie’s disappearance, the more resistance she encounters, and the colder January’s case feels. Could January’s killer still be out there? Is it the same person who took Natalie? And what will it cost to finally discover what truly happened that night twenty years ago?

Twisty, chilling, and intense, All Good People Here is a searing tale that asks: What are your neighbors capable of when they think no one is watching?

Critic reviews

“Ashley Flowers has a knack for writing twisty plots and believable characters. All Good People Here is a stunning debut from a fresh new voice in the thriller space.”—Karin Slaughter

All Good People Here has enough twists and layers for three novels. Ashley Flowers has taken a premise familiar to true-crime fans and created a story that’s compelling and psychologically rich, with an ending that’s as unnerving as it is satisfying.”—Lou Berney

“While some aspects of the fictional plot may remind true crime aficionados of real cases, the twist at the end is wholly original.”Good Housekeeping

Dear Listener,

How did my podcast Crime Junkie influence my debut novel?
"This is a story that has been living inside me for a very long time. Born from lessons I have learned from working in the true crime space, this fiction novel holds truths I hope become bigger than this book. The first being that you never know what happens behind closed doors. Families have secrets, but even more than that, they have their own pain and traumas that can be amplified by people from the outside looking in and casting judgments. I also hope that this book inspires people to never give up on a case. Yes, it is fiction, but I live in the world of cold cases. The protagonist in this story, Margot, is modeled after so many investigative journalists I have come to know over the years. They aren’t done when the piece is written or when the podcast is over. They keep running until they find the truth, and in Margot’s case, until the very last word on the very last page." – Ashley Flowers, writer of All Good People Here

Where ever you found this book from following the crime junkies Or just popped up and your recommended it’s absolutely amazing there were parts where I literally held my breath trying to listen harder beginning to end you don’t want to stop this isn’t the usual genre of book I listen to or read but since it was written by one of my favorite podcasters I had to give it a go and it was absolutely amazing

The Ending Ruined it. It had so much promise

This started fantastically. The reader was excellent. They did this AMAZING job of building the story up and in the end RUINED it! Went from a story to the author (first change up of voice) taking over at the end. Left the story unfinished and was actually ticked that was how it ended. What a waste of such a good build-up. Very disappointed :(

I love everything Ashley Flowers does. This did not disappoint. The story was great. Did not end like I thought it would. Can’t wait to see what Ashley does next.

Great Story.. except

This was a great story! Twists and turns and shocks around every corner! Would love to have more by Ashley Flowers! That being said, the narrating was awful! Women trying to sound like men was so bad! And the ending… I had to listen to it three times and still am confused!! Does Margot live?

WTF

This book lived up to the description Ashley Flowers gave in advertising it. Definitely, has several WTF moments. The ending was surprising and I think there should be more, because that’s how it left me! 😧 I would not be opposed to reading more of Ashley’s novels in the future. Thanks for the roller coaster ride. 😜

Unexpected

I listen to tons of true crime and have seen many scary movies so from the very beginning I thought I had it pinned down who done it. But I was wrong. The ending was heartbreaking and like the the author had warned, she WILL keep you guessing until the very end.
