Critic reviews

"The book is well written with a flowing style, plenty of dialogue, and lots of action....Although Moon is only 10, older readers will also enjoy the book and will better understand the adults' perspectives." ( School Library Journal)

Great Southern Story

If you could sum up Alabama Moon in three words, what would they be?

My 16 year old grand son has to read this for school, and he hates to read but was reading it because he really likes it, (and that's something) so it is taking him a while because he reads slow, so I got the audible version for him and he is enjoying listening to it and following along. He says it's a great book, when he gets through, I will read it.

What other book might you compare Alabama Moon to and why?

not sure

Have you listened to any of Nick Landrum’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No my grandson can't sit still that long

Any additional comments?

If he likes it it must be pretty good, can't wait to read or listen myself

Very well written adventure story

Very well written story, Watt Key does a fine job of describing scenes in a way that allows the reader to transport himself to that very place. Landrum’s narration is just right and carries the listener effortlessly through the scenes exquisitely described by Key.

Amazing story.

This book is the most extraordinary book I have ever listened to. This book is about a 10 year old boy named Moon. He has grew up in the wild with his father for as long as he can remember. A tragedy accrues and he forced to a Home for Boys. Will Moon break out? Will he make friends? Who can say! Read this book for the full story. This is a MUST READ FOR ADULTS AND KIDS ALIKE! Remember to add this book to your book list!

A Modern Huckleberry Finn

Engaging adolescent readers is no easy task, in today's fast paced, action oriented, virtual reality enhanced video game culture. Alabama Moon is a book that should make any young boy who loves adventure and the outdoors drop his video game controller and lose himself in Moon's escapades. Raised in the wilderness by his Viet-Nan Vet Father, Moon is left to fend for himself when his dad dies. It is not nature that frightens Moon but the complexities of modern civilization that seem brutal and unfair. Moon finds away to face the challenges that confront him, triumph over the cruel sheriff and change a lot of people's lives in a positive way. A modern Huckleberry Finn, there is no problem he can't solve, nothing he can't make for himself and no one he can not eventually defeat or win over to his side. Quite an accomplishment for an eleven-year-old boy! An engaging adventure for readers of all ages.

The book

I really love the story I like the way it was written. I also really like the narrator I feel like with audible. The narrator really makes or breaks the book and the narrator did this book more than justice. It was very well done and I feel that all of the voices settled well into each of the characters.

Good for young readers

Long descriptions over adventures of a young boy. A little tedious which could lose interest of readers, but catches anticipation and attention nonetheless.

A great book!

I started listening to this one while my kids were in the car, but liked it so much that I finished it without them. (We'll go back and listen from where we all left off.)
