A must

Detailed description of the slave trade and posterior exploitation of human beings on American soil, their fight for freedom, and what heppened after the end of the American Civil War. The lecturer kept me focused on the lectures.

Most important but least know history

I recommend this book, especially for those who love history. For me this book filled in a large blank I had about this phase of history. There was so much happening in the slave communities, especially in the colonies up until the war between the north and south. Early on, leaders arose among the slaves and at the risk of their own lives and unified and organized the black slaves. Much of the earliest slavery took root in Europe and only later on the west side of the Atlantic and the Caribbean. For a while, Haiti looked like the promised land for escaped slaves, but it turned out to be a nightmare.
