About this listen

Detroit mortgage broker Mark Unger adored his wife Florence and their two young sons. But after a decade of marriage and increasing financial trouble, Mark's life began to slowly unravel. He became addicted to pain killers and gambling, and ended up spending five months in rehab.

Forced to go back to work, Flo became bitter and resentful of Mark and began to have an affair with one of his friends. When Mark returned home and his disability checks weren't enough to make ends meet, Flo filed for divorce.

Panicked by the thought losing her, Mark did everything he could to win Flo back. Even though she resisted his efforts, Flo did agree to a weekend getaway at the family's favorite lakeside resort. But after their first night there, Flo went missing...and the next day her corpse was found floating in the water. Mark claimed that her death was an accident - one that must have happened while he was up at the cottage putting the kids to sleep. But soon a jury would be convinced of what Flo's friends and family believed to be true: that Flo would never have been alone on the boat dock that night because she was deathly afraid of the dark.

algae

nothing special, another 3 star story. the real crime perpetrated here is the way the narrator pronounces algae

Blah

I think that the story was too too long. I forced myself to listen to it to form an accurate review.

Oof- this narrator

This is the second book I’ve listened to, both by this author and narrator. The narrator really needs to look at his glaring mis-pronunciations (algae, buccal, rifle, etc.) Also, he’s very flat, Hannibal Lector sounding. The story is an interesting one, but this author weighs it down with way too much irrelevant information.

If you like forensic file transcripts 👍

This book is light on the facts and circumstances leading up to the event and way long on the court forensics and battle of the experts. Be prepared for lengthy audio discourse on forensics. Brings into question the veracity of expert witnesses and how they influence jurors.

Not the best of Mr Henderson's books.

The narrator should be screened for accurate pronunciation. I've never heard anyone refer to algae as al-GA. Annoying.

Liking this Author.

This author reveals step by step into all aspects of the crime and the trial. He gives balanced treatment to defense. And often gives you extra details about the interesting players involved, like lawyers, judges, police, etc. I like his way of presenting the book. It leaves me curious as to what will happen in the end.
What makes this book exceptional, though, is the amazing narrator: Paul Michael Garcia. I think he reads by a different name in other books. Regardless of his pronunciation of algae... This is a first class narrator.
