About this listen

Oliver:

So here I am, about to ask my buddy Leo if he'll pretend to be my spouse for a few weeks until Mom buzzes off. My mother, the matchmaker...I just never thought she'd turn that gaze on me.

Thank God he needs the money, or else... well, no "or else". Leo's a great guy. He'd do this for me, money or not. I know he would. It's the whole reason I'm asking him and not some random guy off the street.

There's definitely no other reason. Sure, he's hot, but I like my freedom.

Leo:

Oliver is...look, he's a great guy, but he's not exactly anyone I could picture settling down in the next four decades. He likes to party. He likes to play. I want something more solid than that in my life.

Not that this whole marriage thing is anything but a sham. We're just doing it to get by his mom so he can be left to enjoy himself in peace. I'm happy to help, but I'm not sure how far we should take it. Should I move in with him? Get rings? Talk about our honeymoon?

I don't know what I'm doing, I just hope this doesn't ruin our friendship or...change it, somehow.

This work contains some seriously sultry scenes. This audiobook is intended for those ages 18 and older since it has graphic depiction of m/m sex scenes within. Adults only.

Marriage of convience?

David Loan did a wonderful job narrating this story.

I was so worried that the story was going to be super angsty; thankfully it wasn't.

The two main characters started out as casual friends but over time they developed a strong connection. Oliver has an extremely over bearing mother who has made his life miserable. In an attempt to free himself from her scrutiny he asks Leo to "marry" him. This fake marriage quickly turns into a real relationship. As you would suspect Oliver's mom doesn't take this well.

Vegas anyone?

What a great story and interesting characters that made the story unusual but with a great ending.

Trouble in paradise

The story was good, the characters likeable and relatable but all of it was ruined by the narration that sounded and enunciated like "Data" from Star Trek! Was it my kindle? I had just finished another audible book and it sounded great! So the story is worth the time but buy the ebook!

Cute story

This story is about Oliver the playboy and his good friend Leo who is looking for more of a stable relationship. Leo who is a little conflicted (doesn’t want to ruin their friendship) agrees in helping Oliver out by pretending to his husband, to keep his mom from playing matchmaker and meddling in his life. I enjoyed the story, but this was really hard to listen to with this narrator.

not my favorite narrator

Did the story keep me engaged: reasonably - I find if I'm not engaged with the narrator, I struggle to get into the story.
Were there any parts I found annoying: not with the story
Did I feel an emotional connection to the characters: not really ... but again .. the narration
Would I listen to it again: I think i'd prefer to read it

Premise of the story is entertaining enough, especially with Oliver's overbearing and controlling mother in the mix, but the "magic" was missing from this one to make it a great listen for me.

The narrator has tried to bring life to the characters and story but the bulk of the narration felt flat and I wasn't a fan of the sound of the voice he gave Leo. (sorry!)

An odd listen

So the story is a little odd. For me I felt like I was dropped in the middle of a story and somethings just didn't make any sense and never really got any resolutions. Really needed a little more development and the narration does it no favors. It's tough but gets more tolerable as it goes on. It was a pretty fun story even with it;s issues.

friends to lovers

This is my favorite trope- friends to lovers, and I enjoyed it very much. The mild bdsm was hot AF. Low angst and drama just the way I like it. I loved Oliver's growth. Lots of warm and fuzzies. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a great job bringing it to life.

Who was the audio editor for this thing?

The worse thing that can happenig during an audible book is being removed from your immersion.

The narrator already was a love/hate relationship with me, with the first 2 minutes being a test of self control to not cringe and quit, but five times in this 5 hour story, the audio shows that it was NOT cleaned up.

Being an amatuer audio mixer myself for audio performances, I take time to remove all instances of my actor repeating lines to get the tone just right. And I post mine and my actor's work for free, with pieces ranging from 30 mins to hours long works after hours and HOURS of scrubbing. Why did I pay for an audiobook on audible that STILL has repeating dialogue?

If youre going to do an amatuer job with your audio editing, post it for free or dont post it at all. It's an insult.

At least the story was kinda cute.
