It’s Drop Night, the one night every decade when the gods hand out cards to a lucky few. If you get a deck, you’re a deckbearer capable of wondrous feats within the Great Game system. You can control powerful monsters and summon mantles that let you fight alongside your beasts. Ethan Wolfe, top enforcer for the Grimm family mob, has already been overlooked on two previous Drop Nights. People of his ilk seldom receive cards, as the gods tend to favor people who follow their divine mandates, but that doesn’t mean Wolfe can’t hope.

Publisher's summary
Death Lords. Celebrations. And arcanists plotting to destroy Astra Academy from within.
Gray Lexly thought he had defeated the fragment of Death Lord Deimos, but Gray's dreams are now haunted by a sinister ruler of the abyssal hells.
Luckily for everyone in Astra Academy, it seems Deimos won't be escaping the dreamscape anytime soon. Unfortunately for Gray, this means he's stuck with the Death Lord. So, when Deimos's followers—and enemies—come looking for him, it's Gray who stands in their way.
And with cultists planning something sinister, Gray must find a way to rid himself of Deimos's presence—while he still can.

Story
On a typical day, on an average train platform, two warring sister goddesses found their avatars. One avatar, the young Yoshi, was swept away to the world of Ephemera to be a great hero of honor, courage, and light. The other, the not-so-young Seiji, was swept away to become a dark lord out to kill or conquer all in his path. But Seiji is in absolutely no mood for that nonsense. It's bad enough that on Earth he was a closed-off, misanthropic grouch with zero patience for other people. Now he's supposed to muster enough of a give-a-damn to lead vile hordes?

Great protagonist development
I liked how we watched Grey’s character develop relationally and with his arcanist knowledge. Exciting ending that leaves you wanting to find out what happens next.

Dark Magic and High Stakes in an Unforgettable Fan
This series keeps getting better! The third book introduces even more complex magic and higher stakes, while still delivering the same rich world-building and character development I’ve come to love. The tension builds as Gray faces new, more dangerous threats, and the mystery deepens with every chapter. It’s a gripping, fast-paced adventure that left me eagerly awaiting what comes next. If you love fantasy, you’ll enjoy this one!

Keeps me wanting more
This series continues to impress. Again with subtle throwbacks to the Frith Chronicles, but making sure they don’t over shadow current characters is fantastic.
I can’t wait to read the next one!!!
Also the blooper was HILARIOUS

Hookers and Blackjack
This book has been great from start to finish, I bought it yesterday and stayed up all night until it was finished, it was THAT good.
I can’t wait to read the next book in the series, Gray’s rise to glory is just starting and he’s already a legend in my opinion!
So good, enjoy!

No ending…
No ending. Not even a little bit. And then they added bloopers as the last chapter. No one wants that… we wanted the book to end. This ended like the book in Elf where they just forgot to publish the last two pages. It’s a shame because it was a good book and ending was going well then suddenly there was no more book...
