About this listen

AL:ICE: Captain Jacob Thomas USMC is a divorced combat veteran just trying to get his life back on track. Returning to the Marine Corps after a failed attempt at reconciliation with his estranged wife, Jake volunteers for an experiment that catapults him into a future where humanity has been stripped of 200 years of technological advancements and more than half its population. With the help of a faceless benefactor named Alice, he starts a journey to put Earth back on a path to recovery.

AL:ICE-9: With the help of the ALICE systems, Jake Thomas has successfully faced off with the hostile NeHaw three times. As he works to assemble a space fleet to address the expanding NeHaw aggression, terrestrial challenges at home continue to pile up, and the threat of a two-front war looms ahead.

AL:ICE: Resurrection: With unexplained transmissions originating in Europe, and an alien visitor with questionable motives, Jake is awash in new challenges on Earth and in space. Can the activity in Europe be a sign of troubles to come, or is it an indication of allies waiting to be discovered?

AL:ICE: Space War: Jake finds himself once again fighting a two-front war, one in space and one on the home front.

great but

it was a great series but a little bit too much over the top on the sex scenes. I could have done with a little more inference in a little less of the valuable time of this series being consumed by call of Jake's women and their emotional issues. This is a Space Opera after all. but regardless I give it 4 stars I'm sure that a lot of other people enjoy the lewd scenes.

Human Help

It started out with way too much sex and not to much of a story line. But it develops as you get into it. The author paints what the universe would look like without mankind and how mankind helps it out .

Puerile Moments

The story is engaging, if you can ignore the puerile and mildly misogynistic descriptions of the female characters and their personal relationships. The editor really should have used more red ink on those sections.

The story is engaging. But every time the author deviates into these silly and insulting descriptions of women and how they interact with everyone, it just falls apart. I fast-forward past the silliness. It’s not pornography. It’s just silly and makes meme roll my eyes every single time.

Best Value on Audible

This boxed set provided many days of enjoyment, for a single credit.
The story is very unique, combining elements in new ways. There is enough military action without the endless pages of warfare found in some author’s work. There is AI with real heart and some unique romance. There’s enough aliens for any alien fan. All in all, a great yarn.

Pretty good story

So long as you are not offended by non traditional relationships caused by unusual circumstances, then you should enjoy it. I have actually listened to it a couple of times.

Good story potential

The story had great potential but the narrator made it seem like a chore to get through. He was almost monotonous and when he did add some inflections to the narrative, it sounded off. The biggest distraction for me however, was the narrator’s voice sounded too old for the main character. He sounded like a 60 or 70 year old while Jake, the Marine Captain, would be somewhere in his thirties or forties. Just couldn’t get past that enough to finish the book.
