About this listen

At first sight, Dani Jones fell in love - not with Big John, but with his stove. It's the latest model and makes her believe her cooking alone will encourage the Boss Man to let her stay until she has enough money to travel to California and be reunited with the man she promised to marry.

Big John Thompson returns from the spring river drive to find the man he hired to cook for the lumberjacks is a slip of a girl - Danielle Jones. To make matters worse, Miss Jones decides John needs a wife, and sets out to find him one....

Okay, but constant incorrect use of pronouns

Listening to good writing is like strolling down a path with no stones to annoy you. Bad writing has a lot of unexpected stones on which to stub your toes. The author didn't know the difference between a nominative and an objective pronoun. The use of some words, e.g., digits instead of fingers, was aIso annoying. I was once told, "Never use a 50 cent word when a nickel word will do" by an instructor about writing for the widest audience.

I am now listening to Tessa Harris' The Anatomist's Apprentice - and what a difference. No toe stubbing here.

Sweet love story

I actually ended up REALLY liking this sweet love story. It's clean but not so sterilized you don't feel the physical, as well as, emotional attraction between the two main characters. I really enjoyed the slow buildup of their relationship.

Wholesome Historical with an Unusual Venue

If you are looking for a historical romance that is a little out of the ordinary, then you may like this book. The story revolves around Big John who is strong, silent lumberjack who may look intimidating but is actually a big softy deep down inside. The heroine, Dani is a spitfire who works hard to doing whatever it takes for her loved ones to be happy. The love story between the two is rather G rated compared to other historical romances of our time, but it will still grab the readers interests.

What makes this book stand out is the insight it gives the reader into life in a logging community along the Mississippi River at the turn of the last century. I had no idea how a lumber camp works seasonally, or about logging drives down the Mississippi. I did not know about the setting up of hospitals by the Sisters to care for the lumberjacks. I personally love historical romances, but I get tired of them always being set in Regency London, the Scottish Highlands, or a Texas cattle ranch; this was a little something different!

A wonderful feel good, sweet romance!

It was cute and funny, loving and understanding! Being from Northern MN myself and coming from a old logging family, I was really able to feel everything about this story and the characters lives!
Wonderful Author and I wish that Lauri would release more of her books with narration as that is the only way I have time for books anymore!

Cute!

This book is adorable. Perfect amount of sass and sweetness, along with the amazing reminder that God’s love story for you is always better than your own.

Bland

after coming off a high with good writings great stories then this i am so disappointed
the story is so juvenile and unbelievable it's laughable the characters have no depth
the book have no romance or suspense
big John acts big and clumsy Dani more teenager than woman the narrator didn't help they all sounds like happy kids for a story with no depth or plot it take forever to finish
