About this listen

Keri Locke, Missing Persons Detective in the Homicide division of the LAPD, remains haunted by the abduction of her own daughter, years before, never found. Still obsessed with finding her, Keri buries her grief the only way she knows how: by throwing herself into the cases of missing persons in Los Angeles.

A routine phone call from a worried mother of a high-schooler, only two hours missing, should be ignored. Yet something about the mother's voice strikes a chord, and Keri decides to investigate.

What she finds shocks her. The missing daughter - of a prominent senator - was hiding secrets no one knew. When all evidence points to a runaway, Keri is ordered off the case. And yet, despite pressure from her superiors, from the media, despite all trails going cold, the brilliant and obsessed Keri refuses to let it go. She knows she has but 48 hours if she has any chance of bringing this girl back alive.

A dark psychological thriller with heart-pounding suspense, A Trace of Death marks the debut of a riveting new series - and a beloved new character - that will leave you listening late into the night.

Odd choice of narrator

The book takes place in California, but the narrator has an English accent. The accent made it difficult to imagine the location.

Dogged Female Cop in LA with a Giant Heart

Once I started listening to this one, I couldn't stop . . . grabbed me from the instant I turned it on . . . yes, the British accent is a tad odd for a story that takes place in LA . . . but not really off putting . . . Keri's instinct for seeing through the BS and getting to what was really going on, made me cheer . . . a combination of good training and being a mom . . . her doggedness throughout the story up to and including getting herself fired, added to the commitment she had to the case . . . for those reviewers who think the book is crazy, I only say, they must not be mothers . . . some of Keri's actions are over the top . . . taking down a pimp . . . seeing her own abducted daughter's face on young girls on the street . . . and going into the house of a killer unaided . . . again, the actions of a desperate and motivated cop . . . and mother . . .excellent and edge-of-the-seat conclusion . . . I was anxious to download the next in the series, but sad to see that, so far, it is not available on audible :( I do hope it will be in the future . . .

Good book

Good plot. Well read by performer. There is a disconnect though in that the story takes place in California but the reader is obviously British with absolutely no attempt to sound American. Uses terms like Mum instead of Mam. I kept expecting her to say DI this and Chief inspector. I think the reader should attempt to sound as if they’re from the setting the book is written in

Review

I downloaded this book because it was highly rated in the category of psychological thrillers. I was a bit disappointed because the story did not catch my attention. I also didn’t like that the reader had English accent considering the events of the book are happening in LA.

great page turner

kind of an odd combination. the narrator has a British accent so you have to keep remindi g yourself where the story takes place. It was distracting for me as there were also words that were pronounced differently. She was a great narrator, just not a match for this book.

great character development. The lead character is a strong, complex, personable, imperfect woman. great page turner with some twists throughout.

The narrator's voice and British accent is wrong.

Loved the writing and storyline...held my interest, but I did not enjoy the British accent.

Definite psychological thriller

Did not enjoy the narration performed with an English and sometimes Cockney Accent. It was a definite distraction for I loved the book but will read the kindle versions without narrative for the next 4 books.

Not fond of English accent

I loved storyline and it was very exciting definitely want to read the rest of them. But when you have a cop from LA it would be much better on audible to make sure that you have someone that has a similar accent to what the storyline portrays.

Good Story!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I enjoyed the audiobook. The only thing I found distracting was the narrator's English accent....this was supposed to have taken place in LA....not England
