Publisher's summary

Introducing an extraordinary new voice - a magical debut that will make your skin tingle, your eyes glisten...and your heart sing.

Midnight Gulch used to be a magical place, a town where people could sing up thunderstorms and dance up sunflowers. But that was long ago, before a curse drove the magic away. Twelve-year-old Felicity knows all about things like that; her nomadic mother is cursed with a wandering heart.

But when she arrives in Midnight Gulch, Felicity thinks her luck's about to change. A "word collector", Felicity sees words everywhere - shining above strangers, tucked into church eaves, and tangled up her dog's floppy ears - but Midnight Gulch is the first place she's ever seen the word "home". And then there's Jonah, a mysterious, spiky-haired do-gooder who shimmers with words Felicity's never seen before, words that make Felicity's heart beat a little faster.

Felicity wants to stay in Midnight Gulch more than anything, but first, she'll need to figure out how to bring back the magic, breaking the spell that's been cast over the town...and her mother's broken heart.

Spindiddly

I took Your advice and purchased this book for a road trip to see family with my daughter. She thought it was a dumb idea at first. She would rather watch movies that she had downloaded on her Kindle, not listen to a book with her mom. A family member on my husbands side passed and the road trip extended out a few more days as we had to return early and head 2 hours north after our 14 hours of driving we had just done to see my family. On hour 10 of our 18 hours of drive time, she gave in and let me play the book. By hour 14 she was asking if I could quickly get done with listening to the news on NPR so we could get back to "Our" book. Thank you for the suggestion. It was a beautiful way to connect with my 9 year old. :)

Amazing!

I was reading this for my summer reading, even though summer us over, and i was amazed on how exciting it became instead of reading the book itself. To be honest, the book was very boring, but once i listened to it on audible i couldnt put it down. I love this app 😍😍😍

Excellent introduction to magical realism

Lloyd captures the imagination and paints an amazing picture. We listened to this story with three generations of my family on a road trip and ages 6 to 76 were all transfixed. This was a great introduction to magical realism for the children in the car and the performance of the reader was spot on.
