Publisher's summary

What harm can one small lie do?

Forced to give up her career as a dentist, and still unemployed a year later, Valentina Knight has finally run out of options. With foreclosure looming she acts in desperation, lying to get a position as an assistant to the county medical examiner. Val's relieved. She won't be homeless. But Val didn't count on the lie trapping her in a dangerous game with a killer.

Val quickly becomes involved in the case of Francine Donohue, who disappeared from her neighborhood and is discovered dead six months later. The bizarre circumstances surrounding the murder are not the first of their kind. With the evidence pointing to a serial killer, and a calling card Val understands, she quickly gets sucked into the case.

As Val is pulled in further, the situation takes a darker turn. Someone is aware of the lie she told. Someone who is prepared to kill...

Surprised

This was really good! I can’t believe it’s so far down in the plus library and that more people haven’t read it! I don’t usually write reviews but this one definitely deserves it!

Not your typical murder

Very interesting. I listen to a lot of books regarding murder. I love your in this book they're not working with the typical evidence. Nor is it the cops who are really working to solve the crime. Yes, they are involved, peripherally almost. Idk keep you guessing until the end

Narration is good

This is a book that I am glad I got for free. The killer was obvious to me for a long time and Val just isn’t very likable as a lead character. Started off strong and then just fell flat. Good for background noise and not the worst book, just not worth paying for.

I really enjoyed this book

This audiobook kept me wanting to know more. The twists and ending were great. I hope there will be a 2nd book. I love the main character and British guy :)

Audio version doesn’t do justice to the story.

Tolerated the narration to finish the story. Interesting characters, plot and twists.
It was difficult to distinguish even the female character voices from one another and only one male character’s voice was identifiable.
The book is well-worth reading in hard copy.

The who done it twist

The premise caught my attention. The story grabs you early but just when you think you have it figured out … bam the twist. Good listen would read more like this

What’s with this narrators vowel problem?

Honestly, the narrator was so problematic. She could not pronounce a short vowel sound to save her life! All,ball, hall sounded like ole, bowl, hole!? I couldn’t figure out if English was her second language, or she had a speech impediment? But it was annoying because every single one of the characters had this same strange way of speaking- it gave everyone a comic Thurston W Howell sound. Also, she consistently said
Elliot-cotville instead of the proper city name of Ellicotville New York… how does that happen?
I wonder how much more I would’ve enjoyed this book with different narration?

Meh

This is clearly a first attempt at writing a novel. Kept me listening, but protagonist was annoying and revelations at the end were over the top. Hopefully the author’s next attempt will be a little more realistic and believable.
