About this listen

First published in 1949 and praised in the New York Times Book Review as "full of beauty and vigor and bite", A Sand County Almanac combines some of the finest nature writing since Thoreau with an outspoken and highly ethical regard for America's relationship to the land. As the forerunner to such important books as Annie Dillard's Pilgrim at Tinker Creek, Edward Abbey's Desert Solitaire, and Robert Finch's The Primal Place, this classic work remains as relevant today as it was more than 70 years ago.

The narration was nice. This was a short, pleasant read and I’m glad Barbara Kingsolver is promoting it. This is rightfully compared to Thoreau’s writing.

Lovely look at nature

I think I have read A SAND COUNTY ALMANAC at least 10 times. now I have listened to it too. read in a beautiful female voice it is even more stunning. Every time I read (or listen) I fall in love with the natural world all over again. This is the most important book I have ever read.

Aldo Leopoldo’s observations and ideas spoke to my soul. Cassandra Campbell did a good job, but why they chose a woman to read this, I shall never understand.

Brilliant, but…

The best of both worlds.
A timely call to repentance for mountain bikers, monocrop farmers, and tribalistic politicians.

The best of both worlds.

It was an interesting time the Cold War. It's also quite amusing the author thought at the time of writing that big spooky Russia meddled in the 2016 election and not the US private plane class meddling to keep their grip on power.

Good book.

I greatly enjoyed this audiobook. Aldo Leopold writes wonderfully vivid and inspirational essays throughout. The narrator did it justice. There are just a couple of things I was disappointed in.

1. It felt a bit strange to have a woman narrating a book that is told from a man's perspective (Aldo Leopold's perspective). Ms. Campbell read it well, it just might be my preference.

2. There are missing sections from the written book. I am reading this for a class and I like to listen to it read aloud and follow along with the physical book. Unfortunately, there are some chapters and sections missing from the audiobook. Some of which are well-known essays like "Thinking Like a Mountain."

One thing I would like to mention that I appreciated with this audiobook was that there was the option to choose certain sections within chapters. Some other audiobooks I have purchased do not have this option which can make listening to specific sections of books difficult.

Highly Recommend but also a bit Disappointed
