There have been few rock singers as beloved as the late, great Bon Scott of AC/DC. After all, it was his unmistakable vocals and streetwise/sexually charged lyrics that were a major part of such all-time classic rock anthems as “Highway to Hell", “Sin City”, “Whole Lotta Rosie", “Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap”, and “TNT”. And it was the “Bon era” that set the stage for AC/DC to go on to become one of rock’s most universally popular and enduring bands. But few rockers partied as hard as Bon - sadly resulting in his death at the age of 33, just before AC/DC scored their worldwide breakthrough with the mega-selling Back in Black. Remembering a rock legend
Which era of AC/DC is your favorite? For so many passionate fans of the hall of fame band, the early years featuring Bon Scott are preferred to Brian Johnson. In "A Rockin' Rollin' Man: Bon Scott Remembered," Greg Prato asks the obvious question, what would have happened if Scott wouldn't have died in 1980. Would the band have achieved the same results with a new singer, or would they have become an even bigger band with Scott?
Prato includes quotes from rock critics, artists, and those that knew Bon Scott intimately. The books starts with the rock community's early impressions of the hard rocker and recalls the splash he almost immediately caused. A common take away from this chapter is that Bon's passion and unique vocals made him the ideal front man for AC/DC. The inspirational Scott brought his energy and exceptional lyrics to a band on the rise.
For those lucky enough to have meet Scott before his premature passing at the age of 33, their memories are shared. In 1980, AC/DC's popularity was on the verge of skyrocketing, and their next release, "Back in Black" became one of the bestselling rock albums of all time. There is a debate whether the band used some of Scott's lyrics on the record. What if Bon Scott would have recorded "Back in Black"?
Other chapters of the book focus on Scott's on-stage antics, his best songs and lyrics, AC/DC being labelled a punk band in their early days, and how Scott became an inspiration. The trailblazer seemed to be a trendsetter, sporting tattoos at a time before they were common in the rock world.
