About this listen

Viscount Aubrey "Stony" Wellstone is at the end of his rope - and the end of his family's once-great fortune. Desperate, he tries his luck at the gaming tables, where an offer to exchange his debts for a gentlemanly favor leads to a profitable new profession. The fiercely independent, flame-tressed Miss Ellianne Kane would normally have no use for an upper-class attendant - even one as striking as Stony - but she needs Aubrey's help. Will Aubrey prove to her that there is far more to him than a source of money?

Excellent Narration Add to Great Story

If you could sum up A Perfect Gentleman in three words, what would they be?

witty, sparkling, fun

What did you like best about this story?

This has always been one of my favorite books by Barbara Metzger. I have read the book many times and am familiar with the characters and plot. I was pleased when Audible made this available and I expected a good listen. Something unexpected happened. The narration was so excellent it gave me a new appreciation of this favorite book of mine.
The narrator's was dead on how I pictured the characters sounding. The intonation and inflection brought the characters to life.

Which scene was your favorite?

The first time Stoney meets Ellianne. Ellianne is in the middle of creating one of her charts. It involved cutting and pasting various pieces of paper together. Needless to say many things get stuck to her gloves, etc, much to the dismay of Stoney. Hilarious. Ellianne's aunt's sotto voce comments were also very funny.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. Even though I have read the book many times the narration made the book come alive in a great way and listen in one go.

Any additional comments?

A perfect romance

Loved the book, witty, fun, with mystery and a bit of suspense. A great narrator. As usual an excellent book from Metzger.

Another funny, romantic, clean adult story!

This story is full of hea and hijinx and happy couples. I love all of the main characters. The secondary characters are fun too. A little mystery but nothing too suspenseful. A perfect romantic comedy to listen to while doing projects or driving! Rated pg13 I would think for innuendo and adult conversations.

Cute and light hearted

It isn't often that an audiobook makes me laugh out loud but this one did. The narrator enhanced the story wonderfully and really elevated the story. I don't care for mysteries but this one wasn't a nail biter so it wasn't too bad. The only criticism I have is that the loose ends were wrapped up rather quickly and that is a pet peeve of mine but otherwise it was an enjoyable listen-I couldn't put it down!

Listeners beware

Although this is a very well written story in Heyer fashion, it is not exactly clean. There are multiple sexual references and descriptions. I highlight this because other reviewers have not. There is a lot of comedy but there are gothic parts as well. Sometimes a little too much horrific descriptions for my taste. The villain is pretty disgusting. Overall the story is humorous and well written and many people will enjoy it. Although if you’re looking for a sweet clean romance, this is not it.

Delightful Humor Mixed with Romance and Murder

The Perfect Gentleman by Barbara Metzger is a PG13-R rated great plot, excellent humor novel. It is Regency Romance with the perfect mix of plot, characters and romance.

Viscount "Stony" forced to trade his debts by acting as an honorable escort for the extremely detailed, fiercely independent Miss Ellianne Kane as she searches for her younger sister.

Metzger writes with delightful humor mixed with a fast pace plot that romps through the ton. Stony’s and Kane’s differences spark into respect laced with a fiery physical attraction. When several gruesome murders occur, Stony has to protect Ellianne, but the strong-spirited red-headed saves herself almost.
