Acerca de esta escucha

One hundred years ago, the mightiest "unsinkable" ship began her maiden voyage to cross the Atlantic. An engineering feat 11 stories high, the Titanic contained a list of passengers collectively worth $250 million when she left port on April 10, 1912, but she would never reach her destination. The Titanic collided with an iceberg on the night of April 14, and 1,500 people died in the freezing waters as the ship met her watery grave. Spectacular in many ways, it's a story that has spurred legends and still sends shivers down the spine a century later. This minute-by-minute account of the sinking is based on over 20 years of research and offers amazing detail of that fateful night.

Read by Martin Jarvis, it's a riveting account of one of the world's biggest maritime disasters and the behavior of the passengers and crew. Some sacrificed their lives, while others fought like animals for their own survival. Wives beseeched husbands to join them in lifeboats; gentlemen went taut-lipped to their deaths in full evening dress; and hundreds of steerage passengers, trapped below decks, sought help in vain. From the initial distress flares to the struggles of those left adrift for hours in freezing waters, this audiobook brings that moonlit night in 1912 to life for a new generation of listeners.

I really could picture the various scenes from the movie as I listened to This book. This is a great rendition of a terrible event told from the passengers points of view. Great book, great narration.

This is the book the Titanic Movie was based on.

My late dad who was an infant went the Titanic went down had a copy of Walter Lords book that I inherited after my dad passed. I ave read and reread it . Of all the publications of the tragedy this is, by far, the best.

The Best

Amazing the difference between a great narrator and a bad one. The narrator's voice was animated in all the right places giving you the feeling of being there on the spot. The story itself which I was worried before listening to it that it might me loosely based on facts with a bunch of fiction and presumptions thrown in was pretty darn accurate. All in all a great read/listen that kept me completely enthralled.

Almost felt like you were there

Entrancing history. Although I gave up trying to keep the names of all the passengers quoted, the narrator did a wonderful job with all the people, demonstrating the iconic English "stiff upper lip" presence of most of the passengers. it is not a sad, melodramatic, tear wringing presentation, although descriptions did give me periods of thoughtfulness and wonder.
I also much enjoyed the author's editorial comments about the historical significance of the event for the entire world, as well as all the factual details. I now want to research more about the event and the entire era of Edwardian, pre WW1.

I learned so much

A deeper dive into the story the movie never goes into detail about. I loved the aftermath i never knew about.

Interesting

I’m on ch 7 currently. This is my indulgent historical read to counter the stuff I’m reading in grad school. (Not bad- just difficult)

Enjoying it

I’ve always been interested in the Titanic. I’ve seen the 1958 movie of the same name. I finally got around to listening to the book.

I went into this thinking expecting something fictional but it seems a well researched and balanced depiction of the events surrounding the sinking.

An engrossing depiction

This is an excellent reading of an excellent book! It was the first book on the Titanic that I read. I've read several books and articles about it since then. but this is still one of the best! Great narration here too. Highly recommended!

Excellent!
