About this listen

In her first collection of poetry, Jewel deals with such uniquely human themes as first love, the fading of passion, the giving of trust, the lessons of betrayal, and the healing of intimacy. The Alaska native writes with frankness and honesty. She is serious and suddenly playful, but always compelling.(P)1998 Jewel Kilcher; ©1998 HarperCollins Publishers Inc., Harper Audio, A Division of HarperCollins Publishers Instruction & Technique Poetry

Good But Incomplete

Any additional comments?

I purchased the hard copy of this book some years ago and enjoyed it. Her poems of Alaska reminded me of my boyhood home in Northern Idaho.

The audio recording was especially enjoyable because is was read by the author. Not only did I get to hear the poems as she intended them to be read but she has a pleasant voice.

My only disappointment is that the introduction and afterward were not included. The introduction was especially important in that it introduced her work and told how the book came about in the first place.

Beautifully Read & Written

When Jewel expresses her feelings through her words whether it be a song or poetry her authenticity as a person just shines through. I have read her past 3 books & each one has left me feeling that I've grown spiritually & peacefully.

Who is reading this?

I literally just finished listening to her reading her life story. This is NOT Jewel reading this. I'm so disappointed.

Purchase her book Never Broken instead

It is not jewel reading. Don’t know who is narrating it, but this isn’t jewel.
And well it’s an interesting listen, but nothing compared to her other works. I won’t ever pick up and read this again. However I’d read and I suggest over and over her book Never Broken.

My favorite book of poetry ever!

I love all of the poems in this book. But that’s because I find them relatable and also comforting. I used to have this audiobook on cassette tape and I would listen to it every night with my headphones until I fell asleep. That was 20 years ago and I still enjoy it now.

Great book, but poor audio quality.

I have the CD version of this and love it. I purchased the audible version and immediately notice the voice was off. I checked and changed the speed to no avail. Eventually I noticed a familiar vibrato of a cassette recorder. I believe this was recorded from a poorly operating cassette player.

I checked the CD audio, and confirmed the significant difference. I am returning the Audible version due and will just load the CD copy on my devices.

A starkly unbridled yet beautiful naked journey

Jewel is one of my biggest influencers in poetry and lyrics. I remember each poem I read in her physical book that I slowly palated while laying across my bed as a teen. Spoken more beautifully than the voice in my head!
