About this listen

Being born undead can have its disadvantages, such as eternal youth and flawless beauty-things most unsuitable for a witch. Hiding behind the guise of a grimy old crone, the witch is content living outside Fort Stalwart with her unlikely band of allies: a troll named Gwurm, an enchanted broom, and a demonic duck named Newt. She leads a simple life filled with spells, potions, and the occasional curse. So when a White Knight arrives at Fort Stalwart, the witch knows that her days of peace are at an end.

The Knight is just days in front of a horde of ravenous goblings, and Fort Stalwart lies right in the horde's path. But the goblings are just the first wave of danger, and soon the witch and the Knight must combine forces on a perilous quest to stop a mad sorcerer from destroying the world.

Wow again. L Martinez is awesome.

This is another great book. Lee hit my "this is awesome" zone every time. It is just a great mix of snarky with plot you can think about.
This is the classic girl meets boy girl wins boys heart then rips it to shreds while saving the world. With a little twist.
Great listen I recommend it!

Different in a good way

great story. original plot and characters. Martinez style sets the tone like his other books but this one is just something else, but in a good way. more like in the company of ogres then monster or gils.

The Narration is a Problem.

I really enjoy the book; I've read it several times over the years and I didn't see a problem when I listened to the sample in Audible. I was wrong. The narrator does a good job in many ways, but she strives to make the main character sound winsome. Hours of winsomeness and careful enunciation wear thin after a very short while, and the excruciating enunciation every time she said "White (beat) Knight" made me want to scream by the 10th time she said it, and since he's a major character she says "White (beat) Knight" hundreds of times. There's a lot of humor in the book, but you'd never know it - every line is delivered straight, carefully enunciated, slow and winsome. AAAAAGGGGGHHHHH!

Was not my favorite

Although a big fan and have even met the author, I just felt the story was lacking. And the main character tries so hard that she looses you with her personality. And the conflict at the end is just there for conflict sake. He has alot better books to read and listen to.

Love story with annoying narration

Nothing in the description would lead you to believe this is a story about a lead character constantly longing for another lead character. That would have been okay (the skip button comes in handy), but the uptalking, sing-song narration made it almost unbearable.

Early Martinez

Not bad, needed a better narrator. Original story and clever characters. This is one of my favorite authors. Check out Emperor Mullusk and Monster by the same guy.

one of my all time favs

A. Lee is one of the most underrated authors out there. His books are funny. kind and mind-opening without being preachy. Thank you for all the great books and laughs!! Enjoy this every time I re-read it because not only well written but expertly read. If you like Christopher Moore, Drew Hayes, or Kevin Hearne you will enjoy this author tremendously.

Star crossed lovers

I enjoyed this story of star crossed lovers. Our main character is a witch born under a curse cast by an evil wizard. The curse was cast to affect a future descendent. The curse was evident her birth. Because of this she was not named by her parents. She has a curse that should result in an evil character. The problem is that she is basically a good person. Our Nameless Witch's character develops well. As she discovers the true extent of her evil curse, she struggles to remain good. A man enters her life forcing her to examine her life, goals, hopes and dreams microscopically. This story is kinda predictable. But it is written well. There is humor mixed in with the sadness. I enjoyed Ann Marie Lee's narration. My biggest complaint was that the story got a little too long in parts.
