Delicious Characters, Mellow Dramatic Plot

Cynthia Hickey develops delicious characters and writes fairly well. This might be one of her early novels. Even though the characters are excellent, the plot often sounds more like a melodrama. It’s still an enjoyable read, especially in the Romance Package.

I LOVED this Story!

Delly (Delicious) marries as man and then becomes his widow and mother of his 5 children all within a week! Before he dies, she promises her husband that she would take the deed and children to his brother Zeke, a wagon master and travel to Oregon and work the land.

Zeke is shocked by the fact that his nieces and nephews have a beautiful new mother who holds his brother's deed. He brings them on the wagon train he is leading and feels obligated to proposing marriage but is also determined to keep his heart harden against this strong woman who loves her new step-children as if they are her own.

The journey is filled with extreme weather, wild line encounters, disease, Indian attacks, death and a trail that does not allow for mistakes. Along with all the trail's hardships, there is a man who will do anything to get the deed. Can this ragtag group battle the rigors of the journey to become a family and find love?

Cynthia Hickey weaves a beautiful story of how even in weakness, the strength of love can overcome anything. Sarah Kate does a wonderful job of narrating this great story! I cannot wait for book two!

Good story poor sound quality

The story is good, but it took awhile to get past the fact that it sounded like the narrator was reading in a tunnel or something.
